Bosmere K181 PH Soil Test Kit

Quite easy to use and seems reliable as home test kits go. You match the colour of the liquid (shaken with a sample of your soil) with the PH chart. The colour gives you a fair indication of your soil's PH. With some soil samples we found it slightly ambiguous. (Was it light green or dark green?) However, just knowing our soil was mildly alkaline told me more than I knew beforehand. The fact that you can take multiple samples is great, especially if you have a large garden or live on the border of two different soil types, as we seem to. It doesn't tell you what type of soil you have (loam, clay, sand), or give a precise reading to one decimal place. For that you need lab testing e.g. by the RHS.

I've used the litmus ones before - a lot of fuss and, really I don't want intimate details of my garden soil, just if slightly acid, acid, neutral, alkaline. Follow the instructions, the drier you leave the soil to get, the easier to pick out tiny stones, time at the end not critical.

This is not a product review but there seems to be no other way of contacting you quickly. The Bosmere K181 kit was incomplete as there was no scoop included. Probably important since the inclusion of a scoop implies a measured amount is required. Rather than go to the trouble of repackaging and returning, it would simplify matters if you would just send me a scoop or let me know, by email, the measurement of the scoop and I can then improvise.There was no Contact Sellers button on the orders screen nor mention of Bosmere on the Sellers Communication screen. It gets harder and harder to contact you with simple queries. NOT GOOD. It is maddening enough to find one's order incomplete but to be unable to contact you easily makes me want to start making wax dolls and getting out the pins.I hope for an early reply.Vivienne Proffitt

Really chuffed with this. Better than expected. Really easy to use, and it did give different results from different areas of the garden which of course is how it should be.Very impressed.

The container was insecure and the test tube, container of sulphate, and spatula were missing. Called the number (manufacturer) as given as the best option by Amazon to resolve the issue! They could not help me, so it was down to having to scan a QR code and find a post office that accepts Labelless returns. Very annoyed that I could not just Email or ring Amazon for a replacement. I will obviously not be purchasing another in its place, incase I have the same problem.

Consistent results. But only came with one bottle of test solution. I hope it will still be enough for 30 tests.

Need to be careful drying and preparing the soil to be tested but after that the results can be clearly evaluated
