Merrell Women's Proterra Mid Gore-Tex Hiking Shoe

Disappointed in several things - first the lack of support in the upper part of the shoe, the dark lines you see are supposedly the 'support' on a lightweight nylon. The worst aspect is the tongue which is not bellowed but held in place by a cheesy elastic running across ones arch and threaded through the tongue, and the skimpy tongue does not completely cover your foot when laced up but shows two small openings, one on each side, which could allow scree into your sock area. It still has the comfy fit of a Merrell which I have worn for years, but I consider this one a lesser quality than any Merrell Hiking boot I have worn in the past. Oddly, I had written basically the same review of this shoe in the past, but did not get published, so time will tell if this one gets filtered out also. Glad I paid a sale price, otherwise it would have been sent back ASAP.

I have the Proterra tennis shoe in all colors. Because of the wide and soft foot bed, I can wear them with my orthopedic arch support and they do not hurt my "morons neuroma" or "Morty" as my friend calls it. When I saw this shoe for hiking with all the same qualities of the tennis shoe, I bought it. I love them. They are a little bigger than the tennis shoe but I think a thicker sock will solve that. Because of my foot situation, I was afraid to order the half size smaller.. I imagine that when I am hiking in winter or on rocky trails, I will wear my heavier hiking boot. These will be perfect for summer hiking on not too rocky trails. If they were water proof, that would make them perfect! That is one reason I did not give them five stars.

These shoes are the greatest shoes I have ever owned. From the minute I put them on I didn't want to take them off. I just got back from a week long trip in Norway. I walked all over Oslo on the ice and didn't not have a single problem with slipping, cold feet, or arch support. While in Bergen, I walked on snow everyday and even went on a hike to a waterfall and the shoes were clean and dry even in wet conditions. I am definitely going to buy another pair of these shoes. Highly recommend these boots for all hiking and even walking needs!!!

These are great light-weight hiking boots and the Gore-Tex makes them waterproof. For me, they required no breaking-in period. Great boot, Merrell!

I am a hero, my lovely Bride said no way can you buy shoes on the internet. Well she got them and WOW. It would still be nice to buy a quality boot or shoe made in USA. But these are the bomb

They are a little wide, but she wears stockings with the shoes and that works just fine with the extra width.

Best shoes ever. Fell in the river ,hosed them off and they are like brand new!!

Love these hiking shoes! They provide great support without being too bulky and offer great water protection.
