Candle Making Genius - How to Make Candles That Look Beautiful & Amaze Your Friends

I recently renewed my interest in making candles and began researching, first online and then through the purchasing of several (5) books. For my purposes as a novice who needs to learn about all facets of candle making, I found this book to more than I expected. Of course, it's only approximately 168 pgs so it 's not a complete course, but Shaw more than nicely introduces the following: types of candles, methods for making candles, wax types and additives, wicks and techniques, use of fragrance oils, and types and use of molds. There is also a thorough "how to" section with troubleshooting tips and an appendix that lists many retailers from which supplies can be purchased. There are a couple other chapters that are quite good, also, and I respect her recommendation that interested candle makers first purchase an inclusive kit in order to test out how well he or she truly likes the process of candle making. Shaw doesn't recommend any particular company or kit, but she does provide a listing of the minimum items that should be within the kit. So, yes, I greatly recommend this book. I have a list of books that I have read over the past year that are on the "to do" list to review, but I never seem to find the time. However, I downloaded this book yesterday and today am reviewing it. This is a book full of information that I believe any one interested in trying candle making needs to read.

I chose this guide from a slew of other offerings primarily on the strength of other reviews. I'm not sure what I expected, but it's a good, basic guide to candle making. I intend at some point to pursue this as a hobby (and potentially maybe a side business), and the info here is very useful, if brief. I sort of suspect I will take the author's instructions and try them out, making adjustments where needed by googling inquiries if things go awry or I want to change the way something is done. I only paid a few dollars for it, so it was money well spent, but it's black & white and very basic, so if you are looking for more in-depth explanations, this might not be the best thing for you (unless you are happy to pursue further information from additional sources).

This is a great how-to book for anyone interested in the art of making candles. Whether you’re looking to just dabble in the craft as a hobby or venture into a profitable business, this book provides a wealth of information ranging from the history of candles to materials and supplies, to measuring tips and safety labels, and the great variety of waxes and their respective burning quality.Not only were all topics I wanted to know about covered, but it also touched upon topics I wasn’t aware of and found immensely educational. I love when a how-to-book can draw me in, keep me engaged, and get me real excited to get started on that first project. I will definitely get a lot of use from this book!

Very nice introduction to this craft. I still have some procedural questions, having never done this before, but they are minor. There are some ideas about various things you can do besides just making a typical candle that are inspiring. I also like that price ranges for various things were given. I am interested enough, just by reading this book to look into purchasing a starter candle making kit.

Being new to candle making, I found this book to be rather helpful. However, the link to the club and to her e-mail do not work. have spent way to much time writing e-mail suggestion for her to improve book and also trying to navigate the link to the club. I'd like to see more resources for deeper learning about candle making, workshops etc.

This book makes candlemaking look easy. The instructions are clear and easy to follow, and the author’s suggestions about what to buy when you first start are sensible and welcomed. I also like her lists of online sites to buy candlemaking supplies and sites with information and more projects. I’ve been looking for a new hobby since I’m no longer able to make jewelry due to vision problems, and I think this will be it.

Good how to book, especially for me in just getting interested in this craft. If was easy to understand, good techniques and good instructions. I actually managed to make some candles I was proud of displaying.

I was looking for book like this for a long time. It really great explained what to do when you decide to make candles. I will use a lot of techniques from this book and will read it many more times.Great for all crafty people out there who would like to try something new or want to get better in candle making.

I purchased this to get more of an insight into candle making than watching YouTube and thought it would act as theory to the videos. I was slightly disappointed as I didn't feel the book gave enough explaination to techniques and methods. I would've liked to see more explanation on choosing wicks, melt pools and pictures of right and wrong or 'if you do this you'll get this result' pictures. I understand that this craft is largely trial and error because there are varibles - such as type of container or wax but after reading this I still didnt feel confident as to which wick to buy or type of wax to use. A bonus is that list of candlemaking supply websites is given at the book - some no longer work but the ones that do are useful and have downloadable .pdfs for different candles and other crafts.Final verdict - gives an insight if you are curious about making candles but the same info is available online.

This is a great book for the beginner. From the many books I have read it contains the most information and gives great tips. I would definitely recommend it.
