Great projector!!!!
I just got the Optoma W311 and I was blown away by the quality of the projected images. It arrived sooner than expected. It is very easy to set up, the remote control is very responsive and it is easy to use. The image is very sharp with vivid colors. It looks better than my plasma TV, even during daylight.I'm using this project mainly to watch movies and sports. The internal speaker is not that loud but just connect a better audio system to the audio out port and you are set to go. A nice carrying bag is also included for portability. This is a great projector, it is very quiet and delivers great pictures for a very good home theater experience and for less than $500, it is a great value.edwin

Just a cautionary note it overheated and shut down last night
I am editing my review as last night while using my projector it shut down, it was an obvious heat problem so now I have a large fan running next to it and it is sitting on a laptop cooler, hope this works and no more over heats, now back to the original review:I spent a long time researching all the different brands and options and decided on this for bang for the buck.I am watching it on a textured wall and not a screen,I was thinking of at least painting the wall with the projection paint that is available but the quality is so good I don't know if I will bother, The quality is amazing I did not think I would use 3D but even mediocre movies are worth the experience.never thought I would watch "How to Train Your Dragon" but having a dragon fly over your shoulder is pretty cool, I have it hooked up via HDMIi to my laptop and I have a 15 foot crystal clear screen, I am typing this in daylight and no issues whatsoever so I would imagine except for it being a little large,if you need to travel with it,, it would be great for presentations. I highly recommend it I think my TV days are over.

Excellent 3D projector. The real deal.
I'll admit, I'm not a big fan of Active 3D. It's a technology that is slowly being phased out for Passive 3D. At the moment, Passive 3D is what they use in movie theatres. For home projector use, Passive 3D is too expensive. I wanted a projector to bridge the gap. I hate to say I'm slumming it with the Optoma W311 but I wanted something that would last awhile until the newer tech gets here. For what it's worth the W311 is pretty great. The picture is bright even with ambient light in the room. The picture is fantastic for TV, videogames, and movies. Though not LED, the lamp is bright and should last awhile (more than 2,000 hours). I have a lot of 3D movies so 3D was a big deal. While I think Passive 3D is better, the active 3d on this projector is just fine. Guardians of the Galaxy in 3D looked amazing. I should mention this projector does not come with 3D glasses. Most active glasses are about $10 bucks a pair for cheap ones that take batteries (Usually CR2025) and $20 and up for better rechargeable ones. I bought a couple SainSonic pairs and they work great. Just make sure whatever glasses you get are DLP-LINK compatible and they'll work.Glasses for this projector need to be powered. Glasses from a movie theatre are passive and won't work. People get this confused all the time so thought I should mention it.This projector is a great buy. I don't have any regrets. For a home theatre setup this projector is great.

I Would Go With Acer
I owned an Optoma EP761 for four years and although it was an office projector it worked fine. The DMD chip began failing (mirrors fail leaving white squares all over the screen) so I replace it with the Optoma W311. While the picture was better than the EP761 being newer, better resolution, contrast, and color; the projector also had a flickering spot (around 2' to 3' diameter) on white backgrounds. I replaced it with another and it had a fan noise and the for some odd reason I couldn't focus it well from the same location as the last one and the colors were different even on the same settings. I wasn't happy with it and returned it for the Acer HD5380, which was so much better from color, to contrast (remember the spec contrast is pixel on/off, not the actual contrast you will see during usage), to response time.

So far so good, have owned this for a little over a week and I love it. The price is well worth the picture. I have this projecting on an 120" screen. I would recommend buying a mount for this as opposed to setting it on a shelf. Not sure if I'm doing it wrong, but my projector wants to point upwards. Making me move my shelf to the middle of the wall and tilting it. The main downsides so far for me are:1. The audio out line on this for whatever reason is much quieter on my system then directly from the tv. If you have an audio system that has audio run through the system before this you'll be fine. My system, I have to have the audio turned all the way up to hear it.2. The system gets crazy hot. Like hot to the touch. I was setting the projector up while it was turned on and had to repeatedly shut it off because it was just getting too hot.The picture is plenty good for movie nights with the family. We also play the wii on it using a wii2hdmi plug in.

... with similar configuration and the picture quality is not bad. Also
I did buy it for the value for money with similar configuration and the picture quality is not bad. Also, it can run for a long time without glitches. But sound quality is very poor and also very poor focus-- meaning picture size is fairly small(i would say one third compared to other projectors with same distance). Also like any low end projector, it is noisy and emits considerable heat.
