Conveniently Ignored a Recent work that Challenges his Presuppositional Preexistence View
I purchased this commentary because I was excited to read Guthrie's defense of Preexistence and his response to Andrew Perriman's book "In the Form of a God: The Pre-existence of the Exalted Christ in Paul’. Unfortunately he did not interact with Perriman's argument.Guthrie concedes that the Form of God is not referring at all to internal nature but the outward form of God. He translates "En morphe theo" as "being robed in divine glory". Not sure how accurate that is translated. At the end of the day, it is hard for many scholars to speak freely without shooting themselves in the foot. There is always the danger of saying something so new and different which would jeopardize any future publishing opportunities.
