We've had this for about 2 months. It's a waste bin for the kitchen but it's one of the most beautiful, elegant, easy to clean objects in the house. £150 for a bin seems extravagant but I think in this case, you really do get what you pay for. The simplehuman bin liners that came with it are an excellent fit and very strong and although replacements are expensive, I'll most definitely buy them from simplehuman as there's just no comparison with generic bags from the supermarket. The bin itself is beautifully designed with small air gaps at the base of the "bucket" the bag sits in so you can expand the bag easily without it billowing out of place. The stainless steel exterior is very easy to wipe down if anything gets spilled onto it. There is a recess at the back of the bin (I think it's supposed to be used for hiding any excess liner but with this there is no excess) so you can lift it with one hand whilst you vacuum underneath with the other and there's an extra half inch or so of the base at the back so that it doesn't push right up against a wall so you can get your fingers into that recess easily. All in all I'd be hard pressed to find a better bin and I'd definitely recommend it to anyone who's in need of a new kitchen bin.

We have had this bin for a few months now and it has proved very good to use. It is stylish although a bit bland - as you can see. the soft-action return mechanism on the lid might seem like a gimmic but does make it a delight to use. It is capacious. The removable inner has meant that extracting difficult (full) bags is much easier and although other bins I have used have exactly the same feature - it just works better on this model. The lid-open lock is another simple but worthwhile feature which allows you to lock open the lid when, for example, changing bags or throwing away lots of stuff. Finally this bin does notneed to be stood off from the wall. Most pedal bins have a protruding hinge which needs clearance to open the lid. The big problem with such designs is that as they are foot operated (at the front) they naturally shuffle back toward the wall with use and either cannot be opened till they are pulled forward again or open but mark the wall. This unit sits happily against the wall with no problems. Would I reccomend this? Yes. For something so basic in function it has these few nice touches that just help make it easier and more enjoyable to use. What are the drawbacks? Just one; it is an expensive bin. I think that may be because the soft-closure capability is patented and so there is no just competition - if you want that nice action that is. So a brilliant but rather pricey bin!

It looks great with it's metal finish and the bags are hidden so as to not ruin the appearance. It is easy to clean and replace bags for (the locking top is a godsend and locks fully open allowing you eaily extract the inner bin container if needs be, or tilt it onto a recessed ledge allowing easy and quick removal of the bin bag). You can use traditional bags with a little bit more fiddling about if you are concerned about them showing once the lid is closed and are concerned about the price of replacements (which worked great too). Was originally a bit concerned about the price as it is a bit pricey but those concerns have been quashed as I see this lasting a fair while.

Obviously this is just a bin but for a bin its Awesome. Can't stop chucking rubbish away since I've had it. I wanted a peddle bin as when I Chuck something away I just press the peddle, Chuck the rubbish and then walk away. I was looking at the push bar option but with that I'd have to push the bar to open, Chuck rubbish, then push the lid back down to shut, too much faffing. I was looking at the brabantia but after playing with some in a shop, the quality of them just seemed nowhere near these simplehuman bins. I opted for the 50l version of this and its a perfect size for your average black bags which is another bonus with this bin. You get the internal plastic bin so you just pull it out a little and it sits on a little ledge inside the bin allowing you to put the bin bag in/out, tuck the top of the bin liner in and just put the inner bin back on. No bag on show and looks nice and neat when the bin is opened. Like I said it's just a bin but an awesome bin which simplehuman have applied all those simple little things to make all them simple little things even simpler :)

I've had this bin now for a couple of weeks and I'm thrilled with it. The bin liner is completely hidden from view which gives it a really tidy appearance. I love the way the lid closes - it's on a damper so there's no clank when the foot pedal is released. Unlike my previous bin, this one fits right up to the wall which is very convenient. The outside of the bin really is fingerprint proof, after 2 weeks there's not a mark on it. I know it's sad to be this excited about a bin but every aspect of the design has been so well thought out. I needed a rectangular bin and this did the job. 50l is a good size for a family and looks very presentable in the kitchen in the chrome and black. Soft close is nice as is the fact the bags can’t be seen the a good right seal prevents all smells associated with a plain kitchen bin. I only docked it a star because it is wildly expensive reducing the value for money. That being said I am glad I bought it but surely someone can compete and makes these cheaper. There isn’t a “wow” factor but it’s presentable and appears to be of good quality and durability and fingerprints are not a problem. The bin is easily emptied with zero fuss. I’ve been managing nicely to date by using up my leftover 25l swing bin liners from Aldi. The posh ones from Simplehuman are undoubtedly better but again not necessary unless you are hauling the bag down a flight of stairs or something! I’d recommend buying it but seek discount or alternative that is comparable to improve on value for money. That’s my review of a bin!

I first had one of these bins about 20 years ago and up till a few days ago it worked perfectly. It still does sort of, but the metal poles for the soft close are a bit lose and keep coming loose. The bin arrived sooner than stated and exactly the same as my previous one so A* as I love this bin. No installation as already fully assembled. A pack of bags also enclosed as a freebie which is good too. If you are prepared to pay a bit more for a bin, it's well worth the investment.

Already have the duel bin in this style which we have had for a number of years. Excellent quality. The new bin is just as good. It might be a bit more expensive but you only need to buy once. The pedal and lid are very robust and of high quality as the internal bin.

I struggled for years with cheap trash cans in my kitchen. The last one was white plastic, so cheaply made that the popup mechanism on the lid broke so it opened when the front pedal was depressed but didn't close itself. Forget about being hands-free! After the cheapo can slid out from my foot and fell over, I had had enough. I jumped on Amazon to find the best trash can I possibly could, and I was successful. This trash can simply rocks. It is heavy enough to stay in place. The soft-close lid works like a charm. The pedal is heavy-duty and will last a very long time. The whole inner plastic can is easy to work with and makes removing and replacing trash bags easy. Finally, it looks amazing! I never thought that my kitchen decor would be improved by a trash can, but this one did it. It it perfect? Close. There are a couple of things that could be improved. The lid-locking sliding button on my unit cannot be put into place by opening the lid all the way with the pedal and then sliding it into the locking position. I found that I have to slightly push the lid backward for the sliding lock to go fully into place. Then when the pedal is released, the lid stays fully out of the way when trash bags are removed and replaced. I also found that traditional trash bags from the store cannot fit onto the inner trash can without seriously stretching them. It takes some muscle. It means that children and the elderly may not be able to change the trash bag if using typical tall kitchen trash bags. I took the easy way out of this situation by ordering trash bags specifically for the trash can from the manufacturer (simplehuman). Because there are quite a few of the sample bags sent with the trash can, it took me weeks to run out of them. I found them to be quite superior to everyday trash bags because they are folded and not rolled, very easy to open and use, and they appear to be more durable than conventional trash bags. I am very satisfied with the trash bags and especially the trash can. This product is clearly more expensive than other trash cans, but it is very worth the cost and quite stylish. It may be one of the only utilitarian items in your kitchen that you frequently get compliments on.
