Made in China - but it's good !
My first venture into a no cable/extension means of mowing. Not the cheapest cordless lawn mower by some way - but this is a case of you get what you pay for! Well packaged and delivered on time by Amazon. Out the box this mower is straight forward to assemble, but the grass box is tricky if you don't follow the instructions and get the sequence back to front !! Although this cordless mower is built in China and is 90% plastic it is remarkably robust and well made, quite heavy, but that indicates it's not a flimsy cheapo !! Two batteries (which need charging before use), each giving about 20 minutes of mowing, a reasonable wide cut of 38cm means fewer passes than smaller models which helps with the time spent and area cut on each charge. Wet/damp grass is no problem provided the mower is set at 2 or above, but the one fault this mower does have is the wet clippings don't discharge to the rear of the collecting box and tend to choke the exit port, way before the box is full, resulting in clumps of wet clipping deposits on the lawn. Having said that I wouldn't normally mow when my lawn was wet - I just wanted to test the machine in all conditions. The handle is height adjustable and the start operating process is simple and easy with a slight delay on motor engagement, noise is acceptable and quiter than some mains powered mowers, maneuverability is okay - just takes a bit of practise. Adjustment for height is easy and all four wheels move up/down together with a single lever and should cater for most situations and length of grass. Black and Decker are a well established name in power tools and this lawn mower does not disappoint - it's well made and I would expect it to be reliable going forward - also mindful of the fact that spares are readily available off the shelf. All in all I would recommend this cordless lawn mower and give it the 5 stars it deserves. Mike

Nice Mower So Far
My G-Tech Mower Packed up so Invested in this One. After the 1st Use the Motor Cut out After only 5 Minutes of Use On Reading up though this Seems to be A Safety Feature so It Wont Burn the Motor Out if your Cutting Say To Low Ect And After waiting 2 Minutes it Fires Up Again. So Remember to Not Cut it on a Too Low Setting At 1st. The Batteries Give you About 20 Minutes Use so As Its Supplied With 2 Batteries its Plenty to Do My 2 Small Lawns & The Outside Edges of My House Grass That The Council Own but this Does a Better Cut. So Far So Good with this Mower. Easy to Assemble & Stores away Nice n Neat. Feels Like a Good Build On It Also. Be warned before charging the Batteries Back up After USE Let them Coll Down for Like 20 Minutes otherwise you will get a Red Double Flash on the Charger Which after Investigating Means The Battery is Too Warm to Charge, so let it cool. But So Far So Good with this Mower

Freedom!
After accidentally cutting through the power cord of my hedge trimmer once too often I decided to buy cordless, and then when a week later I managed to accidentally run over the power cord of my lawn mower too, as it was over 15 years old and a bit decrepit, rather than try to repair it, I decided to get a replacement and go cordless with that too. Two batteries are supplied. They charge in about an hour each, and they keep the charge well - between the first and second uses was a little over 2 weeks - I recharged immediately after the first use and before the second use I put the batteries in the charger again and the indicator light on the charger went to solid green in less than a couple of minutes indicating that they were still almost fully charged. The batteries have a four bar LED indicator which lights up at the press of a button on top to give an indication of their charge level. (Note that batteries should really be kept in a warm location indoors, definitely not in a shed or garage in winter. They should not be left for long periods without charge so it is best to charge up again straight after discharge, though I leave them to cool down first as a red warning light comes on on the charger if they are too warm - the booklet says charging will start automatically once they have cooled down enough though I have not tried this. The booklet advises keeping them on the charger over the winter when they're not in use - how do you keep two batteries constantly on one charger exactly? - but I'm sure that giving them a regular top up every now and again to keep them charged should be sufficient.) The mower packs enough punch to deal easily with long grass (e.g. the aforementioned 2 weeks of growth at the height of summer) and seems relatively speaking less noisy than my previous corded machine. The batteries have lasted for about 20 minutes of mowing each so far, but rechargeable batteries tend to take a few charges to reach full capacity. There tends to be little warning of the charge running out as you are using it - it doesn't seem to deteriorate in performance at any rate - and it conks out pretty suddenly when the charge has gone. Note that you have to push the battery fully into the slot such that the red plastic sliding piece at the top 'clicks'. You can think you've pushed it fully in when you haven't and when first trying to use it I was scratching my head for ages thinking I perhaps had a dud machine. Operation requires a key to be inserted in a slot on the handle. I'm not sure if this is intended as a safety feature in case you need to clean the underside for example, as there is already a safety feature in that you have to press a big red button along with the squeeze bar on the handle to start the motor, and it will cut out when you release the squeeze handle. (Perhaps it is intended, by keeping it separate, to render the device useless if someone nicks it from your shed or garage? Not that this would necessarily deter anyone.) The cuttings collection box (which is a little fiddly to put together - it would be helpful to have a second pair of hands to assist) has a plastic flap on the top which is lifted by air flowing through it while there is still space inside, and which drops as it fills up, a very useful indicator. Changing the cutting height is extremely easy. The handle easily folds away to make it compact for storage. It's light enough (for me at least) to be able to carry with one hand by the handle on the top which is well place at the centre of gravity. Best of all is the fact that it's cordless. Without having to constantly move a cable out the way, mowing awkwardly one-handed, and having to frequently unplug, roll out the extension lead and plug in again when moving across the lawn and around my apple and pear trees, there is the freedom to move easily and mow in less time. Yes it's an expensive product in comparison to corded models, but it feels worth it.

Good in theory, bad in practice.
Good in theory, bad in practice. It is poorly designed and cheaply made. All plastic. I have several other B&D 36V garden tools (strummer, chain saw, hedge trimmer) and all are robust and well made. This lawn mower is flimsy and made of weak plastic. It look me ages to asssemble as the handle piece which requires a nut has come dislodged in transit so the plastic cog at the base of the handle needed to be removed to relocate the nut in its rightful place. This was not easily achieved due to the design of the mower. Once in use, the battery drains very fast (less than 10 mins of hard mowing). So definitely need 2 or 3 batteries to be of any practical use. I would say this mower is only fit for small lawns or finishing off edges where my Mountfield Petrol mower or sit on mower can’t get to.

Mowed through a 13m x 10m Lawn with ease!
Brought this mower over Christmas. I read the reviews and thought it was this or a smaller Bosch Rotak. I thought the extra width would be better. Last couple of weeks it's been sunny, so waited till it was a nice day. The lawnmower is easy to setup and the battery was showing as charged even though I have not touched it since early December. The mower itself is reasonable in weight, considering it is the large, would be equivalent to the weight of a cheap and cheerful low-end petrol mower. Started up straight away. Which is a bonus as I am used to using petrol mowers. My last petrol mower was a beast in weight, however the rear plastic wheels broke/cracked after a month. So, thought I'd try a cordless mower. My lawn is reasonably sized 13m x 10m and a few odd bits, which are of little significance. The grass was pretty long in certain areas, put the mower to setting 3 and walked the walk. I managed to mow the whole lawn on the charged battery, I guess I could have done another 2m x 2m by the time the battery may have discharged completely. I was pleasantly surprised as I thought I'd only get a quarter done. It comes with two batteries and I have a third from my Strimmer. The nice thing is the LI-ON batteries can be used within the Black & Decker range. The nice thing is the mower had no issue cutting the really long grass if anything, my petrol mower would have stalled on it. You can hear the motor power working harder on the longer grass, so the motor is providing the extra power when needed. I was skeptical as one review and comments suggested it was poor quality. However, this mower has stood up well. It is powerful and the battery lasted. It is a big mower and I wouldn't expect my mother to operate it. But, it is manoeuvrable and easy to handle from my perspective. As it is big and powerful, it made light work of the lawn. I guess if you had a lawn over double my size, then of course you'll need 2-3 batteries. Now, I can't say if the LI-ON batteries are at fault as I have had issues with earlier LI-ON batteries on a different B&D product. However, the two that came with the mower seem good, considering the length of the grass it tackled. Final thoughts, I definitely give this mower a thumbs up. It is big and powerful, the Autosense kicks in and works a treat. The batteries charge up quickly as well, fully charged in less than 30 minutes. So, cannot complain really. Overall, very pleased and happy with the Black & Decker CLMA4820L2-GB Cordless.

Excellent product although it does need it's 2 batteries.
Decided it was the end of buying petrol mowers for me (and my wife who could not start one) After much reviews and comparisons bought the Black & Decker brand, mainly because it has 2 batteries. Only recently assembled and used for first time. Assembly very easy and was ready to use in ten minutes. Can be lifted with one hand into or out of shed or garage doorway. Handles fold easily with swift action device, no more unscrewing bolts. Height setting simple handle easy to use, Possibly could be one lower level for those who like a very close cut on a totally flat lawn, but ideal for my uneven one to avoid shaving high points.Good safety "key" to immobilize if doing cleaning etc. Simple press button start. Motor very quiet compared to petrol. Easy to push around large lawn, although it does take a bit of maneuvering around tight corners. First use got around 30 minutes with one battery. I think that will increase as batteries reach full charge potential after a few charges. Even then, changing the battery in the middle of cutting is simple so no delay if large garden. Cleaning underside easy with no risk of petrol/oil spillage with my old machine ! Easy to store as it folds quickly and can be lifted off the floor if needed. So far could not be happier

Expensive mower with a one dud ÂŁ60.00 battery
Arrived with two batteries but only one will take a charge.....the one not charging flashes permanently red.......at up to 360.00 a replacement the already excessive charge of of 360.00 is not a fair price especially when the day after it was ordered there was a price drop to 3256.00 for the same mower and quantity of batteries....as a consumer I feel extremely let down, how do I get a working replacement battery....the machine itself works......also the charger came with a round two pin lead but no uk socket to plug that into.

Fit for purpose
Easy to use and as an old’un can manage lawns far better than with my heavy petrol mower Batteries ok but also having B&D Trimmer and a hedge cutter with 36v batteries so it is very convenient. Unless you have perfect lawns the lowest blade settings are a joke, level 3 setting great but level 2 motor struggles. Level 1 forget it. Further review Now damp autumn here the lack of power from the 36v motor really noticeable and the blades are poor quality metal. Regular sharpening essential (bought spare blades but shame no one does a superior blade)

SENCILLAMENTE EXCELENTE

Funzt. So macht Rasenmähen (fast) wieder Spass...
Nun also mit Akku.
