Q: How is the cutter actioned? The photos and video do not show this.

First adjust the height and angle of cut - how to do this is pretty obvious when you have it in front of you - or put another way, if you can't figure that out the product probably isn't for you. Then position the cutting head around the branch to be cut. Hold the device by the base in one hand and pull down on the sliding actuator with the other hand. The only issue I have with it is that it can be quite tough to cut through branches of a diameter close to the limit of the cutting head. In this circumstance I site the base of the device on the ground or something else to give a firm support, then I can use two hands to pull on the actuator. When I acquired mine I had a lot of mature trees to trim and by-and-large it made a challenging job substantially easier than it would otherwise have been. By the way, it's a good idea to wear a hard hat when using the lopper as the cut branches have a tendency to fall on your head. Hope this helps.

Q: it says extends to 3.5m inc user. First time ive seen one say this. Does this mean thats how far from the ground rather than on top of users height?

The total length of the pole fully extended is 4 metres of which 0.5 metres is required to hold the pole and operate the sliding cutting mechanism. The length of 3.5 metres refers to the available length to lop branches, you can probably add half the height of the person using the pole to this figure.

Q: Can you connect a saw to the end of pole?

Not really. It extends a long way and apart from difficulties in managing it, the cutting handle is at the bottom. You need to pull it. There is another sliding handle at the middle. Just remember it's not a saw, it's a pair of jaws, and you need to give it a pull to operate the jaws
