Is this the same as using acetone?

No it is not. You have to be careful when using acetone on plastic or vinyl. Acetone can change the properties of some plastics, most notably making it brittle. The solvent in this product is NAPHTHA. I wouldn't recommend using straight naphtha either. If you wish to use a straight solvent to clean and prep for dying plastic or leather, I use alcohol, but I prefer this product.

Is there any silicon in sem 38353? will it take current color out of vinyl? can it be used to clean overspray off the vinyl without damaging it.

I don’t believe there is silicone in this product and it will not leach the color out of vinyl. It cleans and preps as would 99% alcohol. I am unsure of overspray as I didn’t have that issue to deal with. However it does clean and prep very well.

Has anyone used this prep without using Sem 39362 soap before painting on leather???????

Have not used it on leather however I have used it on vinyl and it works great just sprayed the prep on and let it dry good and then you're good to go

Is light parchment a soft white? The lid color looks almost like a sand color?

it is more like a very soft off/white. It is only a preperation for painting. do you have your paint yet? If not, I can mention a great paint brand. SEM Color Coat is ready to spray Covers GREAT and sure stays on
