Does the remote control works ? Apple TV being in the back of tv?

yes. The Apple TV does not need line of sight for operation. It can be behind the tv or inside a cabinet.

So the Apple TV device sends its output to the TV through the electrical cord connection?

No, the electrical cable powers both the Apple TV and the TV. You still have to plug in an HDMI cable from the Apple TV to the TV to have it display properly. This splitter just reduces the amount of power cables needed to be plugged in at the same time.
