Great Lower Intermediate book on Arabic - whatever your age
This is a really good little book for learning more of Arabic after the beginner stage has been mastered, whatever your age! It has information in it about Islamic religion and culture and history appropriate for an introduction into Arabic at the Pre GCSE stage. The writing of the Arabic script is very clear, there is NO transliteration and there are sections introducing the student into the grammar such as how to compose a sentence ( not as straightforward as you may think) and how to use adjectives and where to place the adjective in a sentence (different to English). It is illustrated by appropriate and informative pictures in pen and ink, some photos (black and white ) and there is a useful section at the back of the book with some useful common words/phrases (just 2 pages). It is not a big book (in number of pages- 149 of A4 size)There are exercises for you to do on your own and in a group - really this is meant first as a text book, so I would not advise buying it for someone to use as a learn-by-yourself book unless that person was highly motivated and had other resources (Arabic friends for example) who could help with translation and correction of exercises. I bought it for myself to use as a 'teach-yourself' type book, but I have online help available and many other books to cross check my exercises in the book and answer questions that do inevitably arise.I am really impressed by this book after buying may other books that claim to be 'the' book that will teach 'better' than other books. I am learning Arabic because I wished to read more about what is going on in the world today at source and for mental stimulation as I work only part-time. It is a fascinating language to learn and is certainly very interesting as a brain stimulating exercise! I am interested in learning Hebrew next, and I am amazed at how much more in the way of language learning resources there are for Hebrew, than there have been for Arabic. When I started learning Arabic at Christmas this year (a few months ago) there were hardly any books available through Amazon. co. uk - at least there are now a few more. I was not wanting to try and order them from the US amazon store for obvious reasons!

Arabic wasn't fully explained
To get anything very much from this book you either need to go through it with a teacher or you need to have a good understanding of Arabic already. Words are introduced, but their translation isn't provided. The pictures are a random collection of clipart. I believe there are much better books to teach basic Arabic.

It’s not a good book for pre GCSE students
This book is not designed for none Arab. Lessons are not explained clearly at this level. As beginners it should be explained clearly and easy to learn.Without a good Arabic teacher you won’t be able study this book. Even a teacher need to plan lessons appropriately to teach this book.
