Pretty good all round
We've just got back from a successful camping trip using our Skandika five man tent for a holiday of 12 days and it was very comfortable. I would however agree with the other reviewers, that after reading that it had a 5,000mm water column, I expected it to be pretty waterproof and was really surprised to find that it didn't have an integral ground sheet. As it was, we had to pitch our tent in truly, sheeting rain (the worst day of the whole holiday thank goodness!) and the separate ground sheet meant that a lot of water came in under the bottom of the tent (both then, and on lesser raining days too). True, the fly sheet seemed very water-proof, but we needed a rolled up towel along the entrance to stop the tent getting really soggy. My sister and her husband had a Vango tent with an integral ground sheet, and they were able to pin up the front of their ground sheet so water didn't get in at all. Another point was that we would describe this tent as a four-man rather than five, as the four members of our family slept in it comfortably, but another person would have been a squash. Having said that, the tent is a great size overall and has good head room, good living room, plus the magazine rack pockets were useful too. One thing that is pretty irritating though, is the completely useless instructions which come with it as to putting the tent up. It is actually easy and pretty much common sense but the instructions talk about colour-coded poles (which you don't have/need because all the poles are the same length). It is much easier to ignore the instructions completely. To sum up - Good but with reservations. The price though, was great.

Skandika Canyon II
Have recently bought a Skandika Canyon II tent,I was disappointed on unpacking the tent to find that the groundsheet was not integral (sewn in) for the price. It took three adults and two teenagers one and a half hours to erect the tent in a moderate wind. The main problem was a design fault in that the the "metal pins" which were to be inserted into the ends of the tent poles were nowhere near long enough nor broad enough to stay inside the ends of the poles and kept flying out when under tension, necessitating a "juggling act" to get all the pins in at the same time. Extremely frustrating!!Another problem was the mis-statement in the advertising literature that the tent poles were colour coded. They were NOT, but that didn't make much difference as they were all the same length.Having, however, eventually got the tent up despite the sparse instructions and the other outlined problems, the tent appears (so far) to be okay.Peter Latham

skandika canyon
I have taken this tent camping 3 times - single mum plus 3 kids. Hard to get up especially in wind. Also after day and night of rain we experienced flooding through the edges as not sewn in ground sheet. However light and spacious living area and I liked the 3 doors on different sides so you can open whichever way suits the wind/view and sun. Bedroom ok for 4 not 5- fits in 2 double air beds. Overall i enjoyed it but upgrading to sewn in ground sheet.
