Good concept but the device needs more work
I just got the camera so my review will be short.INSTALLATION is pretty straight forward and easy. I read somewhere that someone complained about the wires being two thin and fragile. I did not find that true. What I did not liked is they are not covered by any protection so I added some additional layer of insulation to the power wires (black-red pair). For internet you can either go wireless (which is not recommend by the manufacturer) or wired. I tried wireless with a powerful router behind the front wall but the link varies from Good to Fair and Poor. So I will link the camera over with an ethernet cable. For this the camera has two options:- a cable with an rj45 connection- a cable with separate wires that you tie together with electrical connector (provided by the manufacturer or you can use your own). For these you have to connect the rx+/rx- and tx+/tx- from your ethernet cable. The second option is very handy when you don't have enough space behind your doorbell. It was not my case so I went with the first option, also because I don't use POE.THE APP seems to be a beta version of what an app like this should be. Android and iPhone versions differ in functionality, the app feels cheap, like it was written by a programmer that no one controlled. The date for example is shown like 2017-04-01 17:22:12 instead of a more humane format like '2 days ago', 'yesterday', etc. You cannot make the image bigger, you cannot pinch to zoom in it, you cannot even watch it in landscape mode. I also have Canary (the indoor versions) and Netatmo cameras and Doorbird app cannot be compared with neither one of those.THE CAMERA is one of the features that could break a device like this. And I don't know yet if this is the way the night vision should look or my camera is broken, but what I see at night can't be called night vision since I can't distinguish much of anything. I had an older chinese intercom system on which the infrared vision was way better then this one.The infrared is not permanent during the night. If the camera catches some light it will turn the infrared off and try to generate images like that. Which sometimes fails in a big way with images rendered on only half the sensor, the rest of the image being grey.I'll attach two photos, one with a day view, another one with a night vision.

Great device, NAS compatible, but app needs some work
We recently had problems with people hanging around our front door and peering through the glass, so we bought the Door Bird after looking at Ring and Skybell. Neither Ring or Skybell seemed reliable, but the Door Bird seemed to be better made for the British climate, and had the bonus of free storage for basic use.The Door Bird has given us peace of mind and has worked flawlessly so far. Fitting took about half an hour using the WiFi connection and power lead. We will eventually switch to using a Synology NAS with PoE, so we can store more recordings and do away with the transformer, but the ethernet adaptor supplied is too short to go through a brick wall.Motion sensitivity works fine, and the 3D grid allows us to receive alerts for movement in the garden while ignoring cars on the main road. As such, we receive very few false alarms. The doorbell brings up an alert within about 2 seconds. The intercom is great and the picture is clear. The Door Bird loses one star for its app which is poorly laid out and difficult to navigate. It's very similar to the Piper NV app, but Piper gives you the option of viewing 1 minute video clips for free, while Door Bird only provides a small number of still images under the free plan. These are stored under different categories - doorbell, motion or cloud - when they would be better shown in the same stack, perhaps with a different watermark or icon. The settings for the bell are also spread over several screens, and in landscape mode, you don't get a full-screen view, which is a real waste. The app has real potential but has not been laid out well at all.We would also like to see an IFTTT channel or integrations with SmartThings. Hopefully these will come in time.Edit: After about 2 months' usage I'm dropping this from 4 to 2 stars. The Doorbird has proven to be increasingly unreliable. It sends motion alerts, but then won't stream video. Half an hour later, it works again. This happens randomly on WiFi and 4G, and the only solution is to unplug the Doorbird from the mains. It's incredibly worrying when the motion sensor is going crazy at 4.30am, but the video won't load. We have had issues transmitting voice while someone was ringing the doorbell, and the whole unit has crashed at least twice - we only realised when a delivery driver told us the doorbell wasn't working. Finally, a gripe about support: got a new phone at Christmas and needed the password, but Doorbird support was closed for two weeks - there's no automatic password recovery procedure. Sorry Doorbird - this is a good product when it works, but if it has to be repeatedly power cycled, it's not fit for purpose.

The only option for me
This was the only option I could find that offers smart acces through your phone with the ability to remotely open a gate directly through the app.I have it hard wired (LAN). The first one had to go back as one of the ports on the back was damaged (thanks Amazon). It’s easy to see why, Installation is tricky mainly because the connectors on the back are so fidly and fragile, also they pop out when trying place the intercom in place - poor design.Support is slow and pretty poor. I got a ‘we don’t understand the problem’ response. Sorted it my self in the end, had to use the RH45 LAN adapter (included) to install rather than wiring direct to LAN cable. Now it’s in and working it’s pretty good. When someone rings the delay varies, from almost instant to about 5 seconds. People can hear me clearly (and vice versa) and the picture is ok (not as good as Ring). The gate trigger works perfectly and is very handy. Wired it direct to the ‘open’ port on my electric gate. Not sure how long it will last (based on other reviews), but so far I’m happy considering the issues above.Wish Ring offered a lock trigger option.
