Sweet sound, very comfortable to play
We bought our BR63 from Hobgoblin's London shop in Rathbone Place for Christmas 2010. Ours was supplied with steel strings and has a well-balanced full and sweet sound and an immaculate action. The body is not quite the full size for a guitar and this makes it very comfortable to cuddle and easier to play for an average woman or a smaller man. The neck is slim enough for a feminine hand to reach all the strings in the normal chord patterns. When choosing we tried a couple of dozen different acoustic guitars in several shops before settling on this one. And even then we waited another day before going back with an expert guitarist and repeating the trying-out exercise. This one still had the best tone and the best action of all of them, and the nice (and very patient) people at Hobgoblin were prepared to do a deal and even included a case.We tend to change the strings a couple of times a year as they eventually lose brightness despite frequent cleaning. We've tried various makes and weights of string including the excellent d'Addario EXP , but ended up usually fitting lighter Elixir coated phosphor-bronze types because the guitar is mostly used to accompany female vocals and the strings are unlikely to be stressed by heavy strumming or note bending. Our various electronic tuners agree that all the notes are correct, even on the open fret. It holds tuning well and the neck has not twisted or bent. The sound has improved with time as the guitar has settled and mellowed, and it feels as if it has responded happily to the regular use and care and love lavished on it.
