Percy Doughty Gas Fire Coal Spray Paint 300ml

Doesn't do what it says on the tin. I wanted a spray that would invigorate the coals and hearth Sprayed on our LPG Living Flame Gas Fire and having read about this product it seemed to suit the purpose. It also says that it is suitable for use on LPG fires. I have used different brands in the past and they have worked fine with the paint coating lasting for quite some time but this paint is not good at all. The old paint on the hearth back was showing signs of marking so I brushed and cleaned off any residual dust & soot etc before spraying 3 light coats in 3 hour cycles and leaving to cure for 24 hours. Once the fire was re-lit the paint started to peel off so I repeated the spraying cycle and left for a further 24 hours. Same result. Paint peeling off again to leave the metal showing at the back and it now looks worse than it did before I started. Should have just bought a spray for coals and left the hearth alone - it would have been cheaper and less work. It remains to be seen how long the paint on the coals lasts, but I'm not holding out much hope. I would most definitely NOT buy this product again.

Bought this to freshen up the back of my nearly 30 year old gas fire and am quite impressed with the result. I would advise potential users to fully read the instructions before spraying using short bursts, shake well before spraying, shake again between each spray and be careful not to breathe in the fumes if using indoors as it's powerful stuff, It worked very well for the back of my fire although it has not been lit yet so I don't know how long it will last. I'm going to wait till the summer before I spray the coals as the fire is never on then.

Used it to redo my gas fire and coals. It started fading after 4 weeks. The colour has kind of burnt off as it's now faded after 4 to 5 weeks. Would I buy it again yes. 1 bottle was enough for 2 coats of my fire.

Superb product for tidying up the fire place. Barley use the gas fire any more but this has given new lease of life. Only turned fire on once but no negative

Rejuvenated a tired old inset gas fire and the coals. 1 tin has not been enough and 1 first coat has made a big difference but it needs 2 so will have to buy another tin.
