Work great-plan your sizes before ordering
These are great. Just tested them with our first NY snow. Our porch faces North, and despite shoveling, ice and refreeze never melt. It took a lot of measuring and configuring with different mat sizes, but we invested a small fortune and bought 2 of the 2x3 to cover our front porch, 2 treads for the steps, and 4 of the 2x5ft to connect down the length of our sidewalk. You do not need to buy the extension connector cords unless you have to make a 90 degree angle in connecting the mats, or have a longer than 8 inch distance between the mats. Pay close attention, some mats come with power cords and others don’t and are just for linking together with other mats. I would also suggest that if you are connecting several mats to plug them on a stake in the ground outlet timer. It works great. We set ours on “dusk to dawn” if we are expecting snow or ice overnight. While pricey, we consider these to be a long term investment-and they will cut out about 1/3 of our snow shoveling!

None of it working
Everything was working fine til this week. My porch and steps are icy. Power light is on. Had to remove the remote because that stopped working and prevented power. So plugged the unit directly w/o the remote. Got power but no heat. So none of it lasted even 1 season! I spent quite a bit. Porch mat, 2 step mats, remote, extension cords (theirs.) What a waste of money!!

Easy, Affordable, Practical, Time Saver
Owning a North to South facing house, I always have a problem with snow and ice lingering around longer than my neighbors being that the bulk of my property is in shade for the better part of the day. When you combine this with a wife who won't stand for icy steps and walks and a bad back, it makes for a pretty frustrating season. The transaction with Amazon went PERFECTLY, it was even delivered on a Sunday. The first thing I took note of was how sturdy the mat was, you can definitely tell that this is something that is made to last. After running through the instructions that came with it (This could not have been easier) I immediately tossed it on the porch and plugged it in (Yes, it was just that simple).I checked on the mat a few hours after and noticed that not only had it melted through the ice that was underneath it but that it had also melted the snow and ice immediately around it.I am extremely satisfied knowing that I no longer have to shovel my walkways and that I don't have to drag a bag of ice melt around with me when I get home in the evenings.

Died in ~12 weeks with intermittent use during 4 snow storms - Replaced with new item.
The mat was powered by the SummerStep SMPC with GFCI protection. During a snow storm, the mat unexpectedly stopped working. I wasn't able to remove it from the stoop for another several weeks due to the ice anchoring it into place. Once I could bring it inside and check it out, the power adapter (without the mat) seems to operate as expected. However, connecting the mat trips the GFCI outlet it's plugged into - not the SMPC. That makes me question if the GFCI in the SMPC really works. The Test button trips it, but somehow the outlet trips before the SMPC when the Mat is (pre-)conected...? I'll contact the MFG (Ameritemp Group?) regarding the 1-yr warranty. If they make good on it I'll update this review.EDIT: It took me a bit to identify the right business to contact (Note: just scan the barcode on the label...) but once I did the replacement was en route less than 10min later. Looking forward to giving it another shot next season.

Jury still out
After slipping on an icy step and breaking my leg, I decided to try some of these snow melting mats. I bought them in Oct. 2020 for the 2020/2021 winter season. At first they worked well, although one surprise can be seen in the picture. The heating elements do not go completely to the edge of the blankets so there can be any icy crust on the boundaries. Stepping on those could be just as bad as not having anything at all! The heated section of the mat kept that section ice-free. That is until one of the mats failed halfway through the winter. I am now waiting to see how good Summerstep's customer service is. I'll give it two stars for the moment, but if they replace my broken mat with a working one I'll upgrade my review. One other note if you are thinking about buying these. It is all a la carte. Each mat is sold separately, the required power cord is separate, and if you want to put the system on a thermostat, well, that is additional. The cost for even a modest set of steps can add up quickly.

Lasted two seasons
This product did a good job keeping the walkway clear while it worked. They are not designed with very durable fabric so they need to be stored carefully in summer and handled carefully in winter. I own four Summerstep mats and have gotten 2 winter seasons of use out of them without issue. This season, I had two break. I was able to replace the cord on one of them due to its design. The other, this 24 x 36 rectangular mat, has worked intermittently in its third season with repeated resetting of its power supply but has finally completely stopped working. I tried reaching out to the company (with not response) because I do not think two seasons is an adequate life expectancy for a mat of this type. I have owned a different brand, Cozy, that has lasted for five years and is still going strong. The benefit of Summerstep mats is the size options available, but be aware that they may not last very well.

Missing Power Cord
There are multiple photos of this product plugged into the wall with a power cord but one is not included. The cord is an additional $99 and is needed to power the unit. Be careful buying this as the true cost of ownership changes when factoring in the cord.

This thing sucks.
Most expensive fabric mat that does nothing. I thought it would be a thick rubber product. It’s a fabric mat. It gets mildly warm at best and does not melt snow.

Déception 👎🏼👎🏼👎🏼
N’est vraiment pas efficace. Très dessus de mon achat. La neige ou la glace ne fond pas.
