My Little Pony: Twilight Sparkle and the Crystal Heart Spell

This is one of a series of chapter books featuring the ‘My Little Pony’ characters; although they all seem to be stand alone stories and you do not have to read them in any particular order. They are marketed at age 5+ but my daughter is 8 and loves them; so I would suggest they are really most suitable for the 7-9 age group if they are being read alone (obviously this depends upon your child’s ability) and from 5+ if you intend to read them aloud at bedtime. This chapter book has 13 chapters and 103 pages. There are a few black and white line illustrations, but there is also a fair amount of text.Twilight Sparkle is my daughter’s favourite pony and so this was an obvious choice for her to read first. Twilight Sparkle has been crowned Princess of the Crystal Empire and has become an Alicorn (a unicorn with wings if you don’t already know!) and sets out on a quest to discover the Crystal Heart Spell, which will help her be a good leader and become the pony she is meant to be. Will Twilight Sparkle discover the secret spell and find the answer to her worries now she is a princess? This is not great literature, but if your child loves ‘My Little Pony’ they will probably enjoy reading it and anything which encourages a love of books is, in my mind, a good thing.At the end of the book there some pages of fun activities, such as a word search and the opportunity to write a book review of their very own story. There is even a cardboard pop up pony to cut out and decorate your room. I am sure that we will be reading more in this series and think it is a really nice story with familiar characters and a nice message.

Fab bookLots to read and a great story of Princess twilight being influenced by a powerful necklace.Wish it had better pictures as just basic small black and white but great story.In the back are play pages of puzzles and a pop up of Princess twilight.

My 8 year old loves this set of books :-) exactly the same characters and places as the TV series, which makes for great consistency.

Purchased as a gift

I bought this as a gift for my 5year old and thought that she would be able to read it herself (like a story book with lots of pictures) And this doesnt have that. Its one of the books with lots of writing - so as a result I read to her and she loves the story. She liked the cut out MLP at the abck as well!

Perfect for little girls who love a bedtime story. Big words, so wouldn't recommend to under 6's. Gets my girl in bed every night no problem.
