Hallelujah!!!! Classic Feehan returns!!!!!
This is not just Charlotte and Carpathian Tariq's story but so much more. There's an whole host of new, intriguing characters for future books in the mix, so don't expect this series to end any time soon. And the plot? YES, we do have one! It isn't pages and pages of repetitive sex, (although this is Feehan, so there are some 'heated' scenes!) The plot and storyline is classic Feehan! It's extremely dark and emotional, deeply compelling and magical. Even those of us who have little imagination are taken to the twisted, evil depths of the vampire, and the glorious eternal love between lifemates. I would rate this book back up there with her earlier works. (Thank God!) Previous books, (and not just in this series,) have been void of any remotely good storyline or even likable characters...THIS is definitely back on track. I hope the author hasn't lost too many reader fans, (myself almost included,) to poor writing over the past couple of years. However, having said all that, is it really necessary to print the extra 40 odd pages for the 'healing chant' and the 'Carpathian language'??? Does anyone actually read that??? Overall, a much, much, MUCH improved read of late and would recommend. Not for the faint hearted though!

Good story, awful editing
This was incredibly frustrating. I love Christine Feeghan's books, and the Carpathian series in particular, but this book was somewhat ruined by the mistakes. There were a few different typos but one was particularly bad. The word "gift" is mistyped throughout as "jpgt" and she uses this word A LOT. It's odd. It's as though someone has done a 'search and replace' for the word gif (as in the type of file) and replaced it with the word jpg (a different file type). Why on earth someone would do that in a novel is beyond me.Christine Feehan is very good at weaving a story in a way that draws you in. Unfortunately, in this book, the typos keep pulling you back out of the story. It was incredibly jarring. What is particularly annoying is that Christine Feehan is a big name with a traditional publisher (who has a budget for editing and proofreading). There is no excuse for the poor quality in this book. Particularly when I see complaints in other reviews and still nothing has been fixed.I'm glad I didn't spend £9.99 on this (I refuse to pay so much for an ebook) and waited until the price came down. The story itself was good, and I loved Tariq. Typos aside, I thought the book was well-written and engaging. I just wish the editing had been of the same quality. To me, the fault lies with the publisher rather than the author who has been badly let down. I hope the publisher takes more care with the next book.

Not my favourite by a country mile!
Was so disappointed in this one. The last couple of Dark Series books seemed to take ages to get going. This one started way too quickly! Hardly any background information before, Wham Bam Tariq was 'converting' Charlotte (a euphemism if ever I heard one). And Ms Feehan seems to have picked up a habit of repeating things with only minor changes to the phrasing. I lost count of how many times I felt like shouting "YOU JUST SAID THAT!!!" At my kindle in frustration. Do editors nit edit anymore? Come on people, I am sure Ms Feehan is not a diva and can take being told to either take the superfluous sentences out or rewrite them.OK, having worked that out of my system I can say that Ms Feehan's Game Series have been great lately after going through a bad patch. So there is hope for the Dark Series yet. I truly want them to improve as I am looking forward to finding out what happens with the Carpathians from the monastery.

Dark Series books by Christine Feehan
This book was definitely up to Christine Feehans' great standard of writing. It is definitely expected as normal to be interesting, gives you a view of the usual Carpathian standard and I only wish that I could write a book as good. The way all the ideas are brought to life is fantastic and NOBODY can ever state that Ms Feehan does not keep her readers enthralled from start to finish. My eldest daughter and I take it in turns to buy the next book due out and we have collected all the 'Dark Series' books from the very beginning. My next daughter has now started from the beginning reading the 'Dark Series' as well and has stated that she has recommended Ms Feehans' books to all her friends as well as all her cousins in Eire. I have over 200 nieces and nephews living over there and they have stated that they are also collecting all 'Dark Series' books as well.

Back on track
need to agree with moosegirl- the typos were irritating and on nearly every page. The nonsense at the end of the book, 10%, has far outlived any usefulness, and why are the women so accepting of vampires, they never argue their existence, never need time to assimilate the unbelieving. Much preferred this story to the last 2 but please, loose the chants, prayers and vocabulary at the end.

Is sex more important than the storyline?
I am a fan of Christine Feehans books and always look forward to the next one in whichever series it may be. This book again had some gripping highlights. The only criticique I would say is; it was a third of the way through the book before she actually touched the carousel. I fear the sex scenes are becoming more important than the storyline, which I think is a shame because I actually love the story of the Carpathians and their struggles. I also love the fact that the women whom are so coveted are actually leading the way somewhat to their recovery. Now don't get me wrong I love a well written sex scene as much as the next person but I don't want it to dominate the book to the point that the storyline is lost in lust!

Excellent story full of Action
This was another good story one of my favourite authors Christine Feehan. The story is so sensual and lovingly done, with the chemistry between our two lifemates. As always it's nice to see the brotherhood and comradery between the carpathian men and how they look out for each other.A wonderful story with some touchingly sad moments, where because of the way it's written, you really can feel the emotion of the characters.

Skipped 'Dark Promises' for this - hoping....
Well, Christine Feehan seems to be back on track. This book has a lot of action and is a very typical Carpathian story. This is Taryk and Charlotte's story. Taryk is such a caring person but he and the others really need to increase their human protection forces considering the number of puppets etc. that Vadim has.Maksim and Blaze's story was obviously the theme of 'Dark Promises'. The reason why I didn't buy it was that I also didn't want to spend AUD 18.00 on a book that is 75% sex!I think that it's about time that authors realised that they can't get and keep their readers if they don't listen. Christine does seem to listen to us and this book was a pretty traditional Carpathian story as to the sex.I I love the triplets but I'm hoping that they don't have a menage because I won't be buying that.I'd like to see one of the ex monks find their mates (obviouslynot Val.) They've been so honourable for hundreds (maybe thousands) of years. In conclusion I'd say that traditional Feehan fans will probably like this book.

An definite improvement
Was very disappointed with previous books in this series, and had decided not to buy more, couldn't resist a look at this one though after reading other reviews. Happily Ms. Feehan seem to have turned a critical corner with this one ! It feels like the author was losing her direction in the series and simply trying to keep afloat but suddenly she has taken off in a new direction. She has taken up a previous thread with the children rescued by Tariq and has left the Carpathian homeland to start a new phase of her series. The storyline is stronger and darker, with the romantic elements a strong and supportive background.......unlike the sexfest of the prior book (which was way too much and ultimately boring). Some promising new characters to lead into new stories and a wider scope for future plot development could well save this series and keep it alive. The romance is great but only if the author keeps a strong dominant storyline going. Only complaint is the price. Too costly compared to other quality writers in this genre........ There are only a couple who can get away with this price point.

I am sad we left all the members of the Prince and ...
This was a very enjoyable read. I have been a fan for 20 years or more, own all the books and re-read them every year or so. As I advance in age, find I skip the sex Seans and focus more on the story, I am sad we left all the members of the Prince and his family, wish the others were mentioned so the story line stayed connected

Breathless and heartfelt!
Once again Christine Feehan has made me fall hopelessly in love with her Carpathian warriors, strong, bossy, loving Tariq, what a man! And her lifemates are kick arse and gentle all in one, Charlotte is a natural mother bear! Can't wait to see what happens next!

Needs editing
Great book, I really enjoyed it. Loved the tie in of ancient hunters with the modern Carpathian. However the producers and editors should be shot. It was really irritating to have gift replaced with jpgtObviously someone did a search and replace gif with jpg. However I don't expect to pay $17 for a book and have my reading experience interrupted with mistakes like this. It does disrupt as so many of these characters were jpgted rather than gifted.Perhaps you should look at this a bit closer. However if they had this attended to this would be a fabulous book.
