Been doing oil changes for about 35 years of my life. If I can’t get them off by hand I have always used an oil filter strap type wrench. Finally got around to getting this and I’m glad I did. For one it’s got a strong magnet so it can hold its own weight or the weight of an average filter easily. It’s got a rubber pad as well so no marks left on the top of the filter. I would recommend you use this to only remove filters. I just use my hand to install, unless you don’t have much hand strength, but point being don’t crank your filters on! They don’t need it. I’d definitely recommend this to anyone that does oil filter work. It’s adjustable to fit most common sizes on vehicles.

I like this wrench because it's magnetic and won't slip off the filter as you try to tighten or loosen it, and the three legs do grip the filter well. On the other hand, I wish the legs were longer because they barely grip the edge of the filter due to the convex bottom. Also, the grips can deform and scratch the filter when tightening. I know - it's only a filter, and in fairness it is called a *removal* tool, so scratches shouldn't matter. Still, I may try to find some rubber hoses to fit over the grips/legs for installing the filter. It's solid and well-built so I expect it will last a long time.
