How is it 7200 rpm on a portable hd that uses usb power? is it really 7200 rpm?

Can't measure it, but I can't tell the access difference from my internal 2nd drive, which is a 7200 rpm mag drive.

Can I put photos from my Mac book pro or iPad on here and be able to connect to a pic and retrieve them?

It's all about the file format.. So if Apple has say an odd format (like back in the day quicktime) you may have needed a player on your other device to use the file. Today, most photos are jpeg or maybe gif which are universal unless you have some copyright specific issue.
