Slime 40026 2X Heavy Duty Direct Drive Tire Inflator

I am giving this a 5 star review based on the ONE time ive used it so far. I bought this, after way too much time scrolling through all the other ones and resding reviews, because it hooks up straight to the battery, (no worrying about blown fuses) and because it has dual motors. I wanted something that would inflate my truck tires faster than my last one, (which was a plug in and took about 10 min to inflate 10psi). I keep my tires at 80psi and check them every month or so to keep them topped off. I had one tire down to 70psi, so when i got this bad boy i hooked it up out of the box, (pretty straightforward, easy and fast) and turned it on. It had my tire from 70 to 80 psi in about 2 min. Its fairly quiet (as quiet as one of these can be) and packing it back up in the nifty carry box was a cinch. It all fits nicely, no cramming stuff in and trying to make it fit. Oh, and the reach on the hose is awesome. It went from the hood of my truck to the back driver tire with hose to spare. (F150, 6foot bed, super cab) I will say i dont think it will reach if you are trying to hook it up to something hitched on the back of a truck. I keep all tire changing\patching necessities in my truck at all times, as i am not fond of being stranded on the side of the road. I dont know if this would be able to inflate a completely flat truck tire without overheating... But i do believe it would put enough air in to get to a gas station with an air pump. As for car tires, probably would be able to do the job. Compared to all the other similar ones out there, i think this one has the durability and is heavy duty enough to go the distance. Also, did i say i love the carry case? Packs up nicely and slips right under my backseat.

I am a person who believes in doing a thorough research of products before purchasing them. Before purchasing anything, I would research all the available options in the market, how they function, their differences, pros and cons, reviews, and then decide on the final product that suits my needs. After that I also do a price research to find where can I get it cheapest but I don't purchase from unknown websites. One fine day as I was about to pay a visit to my grocery store, I noticed the low tire pressure warning on my dashboard. I checked and saw one of the tires quite deflated. I was not at all comfortable driving even to the nearest gas station for inflating the tire. That is when I felt the need for a tire inflator. Moreover, I love travelling and do a road trip almost every month. The tire inflator would come in handy whenever I am on my road trip. My requirement was a tire inflator with very good reviews and that can work from my car's 12V power supply and which is fast - should not take more than 3-4 minutes for one tire. I did not want the one that works from car batteries as I was not comfortable opening the hood and tempering with anything in there. My car's power outlet is rated 12V/10A. I tried searching everywhere but could not find a tire inflator with satisfactory reviews, that works from car's 12V power outlet with less than 10 Amp rating. Moreover, I realised that the inflators that work through the 12V cigarette lighter socket would be slow. So finally with lot of skepticism, thought of going ahead with the one that runs through the batteries. I purchased this one as it had very good reviews and decent price. Below I am noting down the specifics of this product: Used with which car: I used this inflator for my Hyundai Accent 2013 which needs 32psi Sound while filling: I would say it is quite noisy. To give an idea, lets say if you are playing music in your car while standing outside the car, you would play it louder than the sound that this device makes. So basically, this device does not make noise louder than the volume at which you listen to music. Moreover, I have street parking and that's where I use this device, so the sound does not bother me at all. Dimensions of the product: In terms of length and breadth, its box resembles a 15'' laptop. The height must be around 4-5 inches. Its not very heavy, with the case it can be easily carried to a distance. We always keep it in our boot, so do not need to carry it as such. What it comes with: It comes with a black suitcase-style box in which everything can be easily and safely stored. It includes all the things that you would need to inflate the car tire - the pump, battery connectors, pump to tire connector, built-in pressure gauge (not very accurate, please see next section), has built-in flashlight, it also comes with different sized nozzles to use for inflating, toys, beach ball etc. Accuracy of pressure gauge: I compared the pressure shown by the built-in gauge with multiple sources (gas stations, pep boys) and found that it is not completely accurate. I use TireTek Tire Pressure Gauge . Its is quite accurate. The built-in pressure gauge shows 2 points higher than the actual. I use the built-in one just for indicative purpose while inflating the tires and then adjust pressure with the TireTek pressure gauge. Ease of connecting: Though initially I was skeptical to use a car-battery based tire inflator, I found it absolutely easy to use when I tried. Follow the instructions that come with this tire inflator, and open the car hood as per your car manual. Make sure to connect the red clip to positive of car battery and black to negative. Always clip red end first and then black end. While removing, reverse it - remove black first and then red. There might be just one problem with its usage. Though the cord connecting the device and tires is long enough, the wire that connects the car battery and device is not very long and you have to keep the device close to the hood. As the on/off button is on the device, it is a problem to use with the rear tire as you have to come to the device to switch it on/off. I and my wife usually use it together, so no problem for us. If you're like me, you do your research before buying something and I did so with these 12v Portable Tire Inflators and air compressors. After MUCH reading I finally got my decision down to 2 products. Here are the criteria I decided I needed and why I chose this Slime 40026 model over the other product I was considering, the Viair 88P . 1. The unit must work off the car battery and NOT the cigarette lighter. Lesser inflators/compressors work from the cigarette lighter jack but still have a high power requirement (15A or higher). This can potentially blow your cars' accessory fuse and cause more headaches than it solves. Direct connect to the battery insures the inflator/compressor gets the power it needs and won't blow any fuses. [TIE]. 2. I want an inflator/compressor that works fast, I don't want to sit around forever waiting for a tire to be inflated. Both models are rated at about 1.9CFM. In the real world, that equated to taking 30seconds to add 10psi to each of my sport 17" tires (245/40R17) that were all a bit low. [TIE]. 3. Has to be portable and easily storable in my small car. [SLIME WIN: Only the Slime comes with a carry case and has a handle on the unit, the ViAir 88p doesn't have the case or a carry handle]. 4. Has to be reliable. I will be keeping this stowed in my car trunk for emergencies and for tire maintenance. Whether it makes an actual difference or not, it does seem to makes sense it would...The Slime has Dual Cylinders while the ViAir has only 1. [SLIME WIN: Slime dual-cylinders, ViAir single-cylinder). The Slime and the ViAir both have almost exactly the same specs when it comes to performance and made the choice between the 2 extremely hard. But when I took into consideration the portability and storability, then the Slime easily edged the win. The Slime has the carry-handle, a storage case and a coiled-hose which all work together to get the job done, but then also packs up nice and tight to be stored away. The other little nicety that the Slime has, but not the ViAir, is an LED light to help light up the work area. That's very considerate since you're not always guaranteed a well lit area to work in. So that's why I bought the Slime, now here's what I think about how well the unit actually works; +++ THE PROS +++ + WORKS FAST + TWIST-ON TIRE CONNECTOR + CARRYING HANDLE + COILED HOSE --- THE CONS --- - SMALL BATTERY CONNECTORS - HARD TO READ TIRE GAUGE - FLIMSY CASE *** THE DETAILS & WRAP-UP *** While these inflators/compressors seem great for pumping up tires, and come with built-in tire pressure gauges, I don't put much stock in the gauges accuracy. A tire gauge is most accurate in their mid-range and the one that comes with the Slime reads from 0-150psi so it's most accurate in the 75psi range which doesn't help me with my car tires that are around 35psi! So I also purchased the Intercomp tire gauge (highly rated by Consumer Reports) to go along with the inflator. It is well regarded for accuracy, has a HUGE 4" easy to read and glow-in-the-dark display, and it's range is 0-60psi so its' accuracy sweetspot is right where I need it. I had swapped out my stock tires on my car with 17" summer sport tires sized 245/40r17. I checked the pressure and they all read 24psi (give or take a psi on each wheel). I'd like them to be 35psi. I connected the battery leads (red first, then black, as instructed), twisted-on the hose to the front passenger tire and flipped the on/off switch to on. Waited about 30 seconds then turn it off, I check the pressure with the Intercomp and it reads 35psi almost right on the dot, great. Repeat the process on the back passenger tire and get the same result. Repeat for the other tires and I'm done. Added 10psi to all 4 wheels in less than 5min, with a little portable pump, not bad at all! After the last tire was done I checked the unit for heat and it was cool to the ouch all around...Though the hose where it connects to the unit was rather hot (almost too hot to touch and hold). Afterwards everything goes back into the case fairly easily and I pack it away in the passenger side rear footwell (until I get a proper trunk organizer so it doesn't go flying around everywhere in the trunk) and it fits there no problem (which is a testament to how compact this unit packs away because of my small car (Scion FR-S). I don't doubt I would've gotten the same performance and results with the ViAir 88p, but it wouldn't have packed away so easily or compactly as the Slime does. This is a great little unit, I highly recommend it.

This compressor is very quick for a 12V unit. It seems to be built sturdily and will likely last a reasonably long period of time. Its wiring to the alligator clips is sufficiently long to connect to my battery in my tall Suburban while still allowing the unit to sit on the ground. That was a MUST as I'm not comfortable with the idea of a compressor like this rattling around the engine compartment with the engine running. The stock hose seems kind of thin, but may be plenty durable for pushing air to the tires. That hose is long enough to reach all 4 tires on my rig, so it will be long enough to reach tires on any full-size pickup, SUV or smaller vehicle. I highly recommend buying the valve quick connect attachment though. Since the compressor switch is so far removed from the air outlet, and since I have an incessant distrust of compressor air gauges, the quick connect will allow you to quickly check air pressure with your own trusted gauge and then reconnect the air hose as needed. The air gauge on this unit is not great. It is a bit hard to read, is inherently inaccurate while the compressor is running and not terribly accurate (+/- 3-4 PSI) once the compressor is shut off. I'm picky about my air pressure since I like to run close to the tire pressure max. If you just need to do a quick top-off to the door-panel pressure recommendation then this gauge is fine though. Speed - wow! You can actually see the rig rise as the tire is inflated. It takes about 2 minutes (slightly less) to inflate a 275/55 R 20 tire from 19 PSI to 41 PSI. At this rate, the air going into the tire is quite warm, so expect the *cold* PSI to come down a couple PSI (my tires settled at 38.5 PSI cold). For those used to using home 120V compressors, this should be standard expectation. As to comparison to home 120V compressors - I'd say this is about 3/4 the speed of a typical pancake compressor and about 1/10 the speed of a commercial tire shop compressor. Very impressive that a 12V unit can be compared at all to a 120V compressor, let alone a commercial one - but this absolutely can! As compared to the variability of gas station compressors, it is about as fast as the average unit available to customers. I've seen much faster gas station compressors, but I've seen much slower as well. The carrying case is convenient, but I can see a time in the not-so-distant future where it won't latch anymore due to the flimsy plastic flap latch. No problem - I'll just use my stubby strap to keep it shut when that time comes. If you air down much, this compressor is a must-buy for value and initial quality.

So I don't review unless I actually have hands on experience with product. I purchased this for off road beach driving and airing up tires afterwards. I am SHOCKED at how quickly this little pump inflated my tires! Surprised would be an understatement. It actually inflated my tires in half the time it took to deflate them using s toe deflator! I have a rubicon Jeep and Ram longhorn and literally all four tires were aired up from 18 PSI to 44 PSI in MINUTES. My pick up is long and I was still able to reach rear tires with hoses supplied so length was perfect. Extremely compact and great carry case. The only negative I can say is I find the light useless since it's on pump and I can't utilize it if I'm airing up rear tires (doesn't teach since hose is what stretches) so u still need to carry flashlight for nighttime operation. Very very quiet for the amount of air it puts out. Gauge works great except while pumping but I find I have to connect and disconnect to get an exact reading. This is same issue all gauges have in my opinion. So glad I didn't invest in an on board compressor for my jeep and purchased this portable pump instead. WELL WORTH THE INVESTMENT!

I have owned many portable air compressors over the years and this is the best one by far. I saw it demonstrated at the Pismo Beach Car Show during fathers day weekend. The guys in the Slime booth told me it would be available "any day now" at several local auto parts stores. I was too anxious to wait so I looked it up on Amazon and ordered it a couple of days after returning home. The twin piston setup pushes a lot more air than the single cylinders I have owned. Re-inflation time from 20 lbs to 35 lbs on my Jeep after driving around in the dunes was cut to less than half the time of my previous compressor. The unit is well built with several attachments and plenty of hose and power cord length. The carry case is very sturdy. It connects directly to the battery terminals with heavy duty insulated alligator clips. The power wire is also heavy duty, much larger than the thin wire used to run off of the 12v power supply in the dash on my previous compressor. If you are not ready to install an "onboard" system like Viair or ARB ($$$$), this compressor is the best portable unit I have come across and i have researched them all. I would not hesitate to recommend this to my friends. A quality unit all around.

I have a full size pickup with a large cab over camper on it and discovered that I had a very low tire at our campsite in the mountains. We all had air pumps that you plug into the lighter. We tried one of them and after a half hour I went from 45 psi to 51 psi. The tires are rated at 80 psi. I run 70 psi. Then we tried a second air pump and after an other half hour I still only had 51 psi. Once I got home I researched air pumps and went with the Slime 40026 2X air pump. I ordered it Amazon with free shipping and was hoping to get it before me next camping trip in 9 days. I received it in about 4 or 5 days. The best thing is I tried it on the same truck and went from about 59 psi to 70 psi in about two or three minutes. I aired up all four tires in about 15 or 20 minutes total. Also, the presser gauge is with in 1 or 2 psi after checking it with an other gauge. An other think I liked is the case. Much better than all the other air pumps I checked out. I'm more than happy with this air pump. .

Good until at first. Failed after about a year or so. Price was a little high. I have had several of these units. Different brands. And this one works about like the other ones did. Should have lasted longer. Because I was very careful with it. Probably got 15 to 20 uses out of it. Would not purchase again. But not a totally bad product.

I’ve been using this unit for almost a month now, but occasionally, mostly just for topping up air in tires. I’ve found the compressor does overheat too soon & struggles to pump in air ..!

Literally first time I used it the top part of the product melted and the handle fell off. Now it’s too late for me to return it…

I bought this to inflate the tires on our RV as it had a 30-foot reach and looked like a fairly sturdy unit. The carry case is a great feature in which the unit and all the attachments fit nicely. It is one of the quietest inflators I've used and gets the job quickly. The inline gauge is accurate and I am very pleased with the purchase so far!
