Helping children understand, identify, and express their needs is key to emotional self-regulation! That's because needs and feelings go together. When a need isn't met, difficult feelings arise. On the other hand, when children's physical and emotional needs are consistently met, they thrive. Needs and feelings aren't good or bad. They're parts of us we need to pay attention to. Sometimes I Need… encourages children to do that by checking in with their hearts, minds, and bodies. Sometimes I need movement—to jump, dance, or run. I'm squirmy and silly, and it all feels so fun. Sometimes I need quiet. I'm done. It's too loud. I settle in stillness away from the crowd. Helping children learn to express their needs builds their capacity for self-care and strengthens their coping skills. Sometimes I Need ... is a lyrical, engaging, and vibrantly illustrated picture book. It’s a wonderful addition to your home or school social-emotional library! (Available in Spanish as A Veces Necesito.... ). Review: Great Book for Home and School! - I'm a school-based pediatric OT and I LOVE this book for my students! I find it helpful for the developmental stage of age 4/5 all the way to 12! It helps them see that everyone has strengths and challenges and we all need support and strategies to build resilience. It's a great classroom or individual student read with an adult! Review: Love it! - Perfect book for children.

Not for growing toddlers
It's a neat book but too mature for my 5 year old son. It seems hard to follow along and understand the whys of the needs, or maybe I'm having a hard time explaining how the book is in my head. I was hoping to get a book explaining emotions but it's definitely more geared for older kids. Will find another one that suits better, and save this for when he's older.

A powerful book the world needs!
This book is another beautifully written social emotional learning book by Gabi Garcia! "Sometimes I Need.." is exactly what this world needs. This book not only teaches our children that it's ok to have certain feelings and certain needs but it also is a great message for the adults in their lives too. My favorite line is "I need to connect and know I belong, to be who I am without feeling wrong." How powerful is that! This is a must read and should be added to every school or home library.

Another Amazing Book by Gabi Garcia
This is a sweet book written to encourage children to recognize and understand that they, and all humans, have needs and that knowing how to express these needs is an important skill. The words and message are simple, yet powerful. This is a wonderful book that encourages social emotional learning, self-awareness, and self-advocacy for young children.

A beautiful book
This is a lovely book for children - it uses rhyme (a good resource for training dyslexic children in phonology) as gentle illustrations to teach children about their healthy needs. A great book to introduce self-care and emotional health
