takes too long.
I am dissapointed the time it takes to dry way over 3 hours this is a cycle that says you can put the towels away in a cupboard!!!!!!!! NOT SO.This was spun at 1000 Revs in the washing machine, all in all it took over 5 hours to do this, I could think of better ways to spend a morning looking at these appliances , after all these things tend to go on Fire ? DONT GO OUT.dont recommend this machine .

Don’t buy Smeg drier
Disappointed really and although covered by other feedback this drier should be avoided!Key problems & frustrations being:-• no reverse action causes duvet covers to tangle into tight ball and not dry at all• long drying time and sensor turning off drier early• cannot buy replacement filters• dreadful after sales support

Long drying time
Longest setting is 3 hours and not enough to dry anything. Have to then keep manually turning it back on until a few cycles get the clothes dry. If you go out and leave a few hours then they just in the machine damp until you come set it again. Items get very very tangled.

Good value, energy efficient tumble dryer
Everything in life's a compromise. You want quick drying? - choose an old-fashioned vented dryer where electricity is used directly to heat the air and is then wasted/vented. You want energy efficient drying that typically has running costs around one third of a vented-type dryer? - choose a condenser heat pump model where much of the heat from the heated air is recovered and fed back into the drum. Having said that, this is a fairly old design, by white-goods standards, so it is slower than more modern rivals. I can see how this would become an issue for people washing and drying multiple loads in quick succession, i.e. a machine wash would generally be quicker than the SMEG's drying time so there would be a back-up of wet clothing awaiting drying. Not a problem for me though. This SMEG is the first tumble dryer I've owned and I'm pretty impressed. It feels solid in use and dries clothes consistently well (after you get to grips with the settings). Use the 'extra dry' setting and clothes nearly always come out cupboard dry. The machine has a few quirks, hence the loss of one star. For instance, I don't understand how hot the clothes will become during drying yet many items of clothing suggest a low tumble dryer temperature setting?!? The instruction manual doesn't appear to explain that - unless I've missed something. Secondly, the expected drying times given are misleading as drying often takes less time than initially stated on the machine's display screen, although drying can take longer sometimes too.Nice to have the option of plumbing the water condensate directly into your drainage system - saves emptying the in-built container after each drying cycle.

Doesn't dry
I so really wanted to like this tumble drier and we have given it a good chance, having used it for a year now. Fundamentally clothes never get dry. A full load of towels will be damp after a three-hour cycle. The sensor, which is supposed to stop it automatically when the clothes are dry, thereby not wasting energy, switches the dryer off long before they are dry. If you put it back on again the sensor will just switch it off. The fact that there is no auto reverse makes it useless for quilt covers and sheets as it will quickly roll them into a tight bundle. If left for the full cycle the outside will be dryish and the machine will switch off. Untangle them and the inside very damp. I expected and could cope with the long drying times due to the heat pump system if the machine could be left alone to get on with drying, as it stands you have to constantly check it. Very disappointed with this purchase.

Works well.
I didn't buy through Amazon and agree with Amazon Customer about laundry time - in theory. We put in towels and set Cotton Dry with a drying time of 3hrs 10min. The drying time dropped rapidly to well under an hour and they came out fluffy and dry.Our early attempt, like with a vented drier, of shove it in and press go was a failure. It is perhaps more sensitive to following the instructions.Following on from Richard's comment on drying times. Cotton extra dry setting is shown as 3hrs 10min. However we notice the actual time is often less than this; in other words, it stops when it is dry.

worst product ever.
i thought i was being environmentally friendly buying this expensive machine. it does NOT dry clothes. For nearly 2 years I have stuck with it. However at present i have tried 3 different programmes to dry one single duvet cover and one pillow case. They are still damp.i am done with this machine.

Don't buy Smeg
DHT71EUK.This dryer was fine at first despite the horribly long drying time except that clothes were never quite perfectly dry. Now however, after 3 years it will not condense, spare parts ie filter box are not available and Smeg customer service is terrible. The expense of this dryer is not worth the potential savings in electricity for the long drying time (4-5 hours) and the short life of the machine. Any savings in electricity are entirely wiped out by the cost of the dryer.
