Hello, You can use both Butane or Propane gas for this item.

what temperature does this reach?

I haven't yet checked it with a temperature gun, so can't give any measurements. However, at its highest settings, it is plenty hot enough for searing meat and vegetables, without the (unhealthy) charring that a grill BBQ gives. It's also quite controllable, so food can be kept hot without burning it.

can the grill be left out in the rain

no it will rust if left out best to get a cover for it
