Catch-22 [DVD] (English audio. English subtitles)

The late British film critic, Barry Norman, sarcastically panned this film as a ‘ miss-mash’, foolishly setting it in the same light as Mash. Mash is a comedy - this most certainly isn’t and Norman obviously didn’t read Heller’s masterpiece upon which this film is based. Had he done so then he would have realised that this film is also a masterpiece and will forever be regarded by everyone who has read the book as a work of genius. Don’t believe me? Then go ahead and read the book then watch the film and it’ll make beautiful sense.

It's very good value for a DVD and an entertaining 117 mins. In additionto the film (available in about 20 languages), there is a photo galleryand commentary by Mike Nichols and Stephen Soderberg. There are alsointeresting guest performances from the likes of Art Garfunkle and BobNewhart.Though at times it is confusing, as reality and fantasy merge, and thechronological sequence of events is disrupted, it cleverly portraysYersarian's "crazy" (and perhaps disintegrating PTSD) view of the World.War is a racket for opportunists to get rich, while those who don't sellout get killed or wounded.My main criticism is that it is not a film with much emotional impact. Thehumour is low key, and so are the characters. They were often comical, butI felt little empathy for them, or what happened to them.In brief, I was entertained but unmoved. Worth buying (not least 'cos it'scheap), but not one to impact your soul. Maybe I'm unfairly expecting "TheDeer Hunter" or "Apocalypse Now".

Very much a cult movie.

I watched this to save myself reading the book. I'd heard it was a 'must read' but I should have read it first as found the film somewhat complicated to follow.

dvd bought for a friend had no complaints so far guess its ok.

You don’t need to have read the book but I think it helps. You do need to be into film to appreciate this masterpiece of film making though. Every single frame is perfectly composed, the director threw out the rule book on several occasions especially regarding sound and time line. Check out the cast too inc Orson Welles. One of my favourite films of all time.

Some of the most outrageously bizarre characters you could imagine doing the craziest of acts and getting away with it.This is billed as an anti war story that is at war with itself.

This was a good movie. Especially liked the part played by Alan Arkin.

Ce film est particulièrement intéressant pour étudier ce que Linda Aronson (auteur indispensable si vous écrivez des scénarios !) appelle un"life-changing incident flashback", càd un évènement traumatisant subi par un personnage mystérieux et qui est expliqué peu à peu jusqu'à ce que le mystère au centre du film soit dévoilé intégralement.Le film souffre un peu de manque de clarté à certains moments, ce qui a dérouté le grand public. Mais ce défaut est largement compensé par la force de ce film atypique à regarder comme tel. On aime ou on déteste !Je ne veux pas insister sur les autres aspects positifs du film (humour noir, distribution prestigieuse, prises de vue, etc.), puisqu'ils sont mentionnés dans les autres critiques.

Catch 22 deals with the day to day grind of people fighting an Air War . Deals with futility of dropping dumb bombs , on people never seen . The futility of desire to leave . The people who do benefit financialyFrom War . Great scenes of B-25's, at the time 3rd largest Air Force in the world .They had so many , some B-25's were blown up . As Iconic as M.A.S.H
