Be wary if using this caddy to clone your HDD to SSD, otherwise fine!
I purchased this caddie to utilise it for cloning my laptop HDD to a SSD. However the cloning software wouldn't work as the bytes/sector of the HDD and SSD were not compatible (512/4096) and formatting the SSD didn't help. A FAQ mentioned that this often occurs as different controller boards of caddies operated differently. So i rummaged around and found another portable caddie, popped in the SSD and voila, I was able to use the cloning software to clone my HDD contents to the SSD.Overall, not a bad little caddie, whilst I could not use it for cloning purposes, I am now able to use my old laptop HDD inside it as a portable HDD. So no real issue (or perhaps an issue if I didn't happen to have another caddie knocking around!). Good value for it's price and seems to be of adequate quality.

Good product, rubbish instruction leaflet
So easy to set up. Slide the board out of the enclosure, plug the hard drive into the connector, screw the four short screws through the slots in the board into the screw holes in the drive to secure it, slide the board back into the enclosure and use the two long screws to secure the whole lot together. There's even a screwdriver supplied. You can manage it without referring to the manual. Which is a good idea as the A5 sheet that came with this tells me that the supported systems are Windows 98 SE, ME, 2000, sever (sic) 2003 and XP, although the box says Windows 7. I presume that someone at Dynamode decided that as nobody ever bothers to read the instructions, until something goes wrong, there was no point in updating them for newer versions of Windows. But, seriously, this is a good piece of kit and at the price I'm not going to make a fuss over the instruction leaflet.

Feels unprofessionally made
A bit unprofessionally made (the screw holding things in place feels like it might break the plastic), and I had to cushion the harddrive with several layers of paper to stop it rattling. You get what you pay for! It still works, which definitely counts, though you might need a spare highpowered male-male USB cable, because the USB port is a bit loose and the (very short!) wire included falls out quite a lot.

Better than advertised
Excellent value and actually better than advertised as this cleverly-designed enclosure supports IDE as well as SATA drives. It's a well made, substantial enclosure complete with necessary cables and a nice drawstring carry bag. Of course it's only USB2 so slower than some available now but for many purposes this is fine (and for the money, amazing.)

Non-standard connector
As a USB drive adaptor/caddie it seems to work OK (did go weird once). What I can't fathom is their choice of connector. Most of these drives have a mini USB connector to connect to the PC. Some older ones has a standard size type B connector, but this unit has a standard size type A connector - the same as you have on a host such as your PC. This means you HAVE to use the unusual type A to type A lead provided. Not a problem for some, but if like me you want to use it to backup your hame data and keep it offsite (at work)then you NEED to take the cable with you. Other similar units I use I can just keep a cable at each location. If you loose the special cable, you will have a job getting a replacement.

Very useful
The screws were a bit difficult to put and the bottom lid I had to break one of the wings to fit with the hd inside. But it works perfectly, very pleased with my purchase. Great way to recover HD from a broken computer... cheaper than going in a store tbh.

Good
I ordered this because my laptop had died and I wamted to keep the hard drive. It arrived very quickly, its small and comes with a little leather pouch and lead, I've had do problems with it at all. Does exactly what it says on the box
