Suma Asafoetida (20G) Gluten Free Vegan

Brought this as a recommendation, due to having to exclude onions & garlic from my diet. Asafoetida certainly provided an excellent alternative. I previously I had never heard of Asafoetida, but I'm so glad I found it as I use it all the time now. However I often use Suma products and highly recommend this company due to its ethic and great service. This is why I chose to purchase from Suma over all the other makes because I knew I'd get an excellent product. Thank you!

This spice is fine - it does add a strange, almost smokey flavor to your food - use sparingly. I think all asafoetida is gluten free though and it can be found in Sainsbury's for much cheaper - feel like I overpaid here.

Just disappointed that it was only 30% asafoetida and 70% Fenugreek. Should be called fenugreek with Asafoetida!!!!!

Prompt delivery... Yes it is pungent but I like the smell and adding just a little to onion and garlic free recipes gives an extra depth of flavour

I bought this as I had read it is an alternative to garlic. Disappointingly it tastes nothing like garlic, it's more like a slightly burnt mild curry flavour.

This is absolutely fine if you only want asafoetida to add to curries, however if you are using it to replace onions & garlic in other types of recipes I would suggest looking for a different brand which doesn't contain fenugreek. Fenugreek will impart a "curry" flavour to whatever you add it to, which is obviously not a problem in Indian recipes but won't be quite so nice with pasta!I'm not really sure why Suma only sell this version with fenugreek, as it's not a common ingredient in other brands of asafoetida! It's a shame because it can be hard to find gluten free versions and this Suma blend is one of the most widely available gluten free asafoetida compounds.So if you mainly want a gluten free asafoetida for Indian cooking, this will be OK, but if you need it to replace alliums in recipes where a fenugreek flavour might taste odd then I'd suggest looking for another brand.
