Danny Phantom: A Glitch in Time (A Danny Phantom Original Graphic Novel)

Great Story
Very fun ride. Sort of a cold drop into the action, but then the action is really fun. Art quality is super great, it follows the show style and adapts to what works for a comic. Most importantly it works really well as a ‘true ending’ to the show, putting pieces back in their place and giving a nice ending to some parts that were left open.Spoilers:Vlad and Dan’s ending, with Dan having someone to be family for him after he lost his, and Vlad finally having a sort-of son like he always hoped for, was really touching (and a way nicer end than Vlad stuck in space forever alone, or Dan stuck inside a tiny ghost thermos outside of time forever). Also, directly confirming ghost obsession theory and forcing Danny to figure out his own ghostly obsession and actually then change it to find an obsession he can still fulfill is so good!!!

Worth the Read
Where do I even start?I have seen a lot of comments regarding how this book is banking on nostalgia and honestly? It absolutely is, and it's working. I am a 27-year-old, childfree woman who grew up watching Danny Phantom, and I purchased this for me, myself, and I the moment my paycheck hit the bank. And while the recommended age for this book is 10+, it is most definitely catered to hit us with nostalgia. HOWEVER, it is written in such a way that those who stumble upon the book without seeing the show would not be terribly lost in the storytelling. It has been trending since its release and Amazon has already had to restock a few times. 1000% recommend that you purchase it.The book follows the beloved Team Phantom - Danny, Sam, and Tucker - shortly after the events of the final episode, Phantom Planet, as they find themselves on a mission to defeat a powerful and familiar foe - Dark Danny. There's other familiar faces, too, as well as witty banter, an interesting plot twist, and an ending that leaves the opportunity for a potential continuation of the graphic novel. The writing itself is very onpar with that of the show, allowing the characters to maintain their personalities without worry that they will seem off. There were very few, miniscule parts that I would have wanted changed, but they're easy to overlook.Listen y'all, this book is too good to not get.

The best continuation of where the show left off
At first, I was scared of how this book would continue off from where the show left off. Upon reading it, it fell like I was diving right back into the show. The humor was great, the writing was great, everyone felt so in character, it didn't feel like it was deviating from the world of the show at all! It literally feels like this would be just another episode, translated into book form. The artwork is also beautifully done, I really love the author's artstyle a lot. And I love how this book aims to fill in some of the plotholes the original show never could.

It’s good for nostalgia but….
I will say the story overall is pretty good and holds up. If you haven’t thought about Danny phantom in some time this is a good quick read to get back into the story. I will say, I doubt there are many kids of this day and age reading this story since they didn’t grow up with the show. This is most likely bought for nostalgia buffs and I guess there are some who showed the original show to their kids. I was kinda hoping for it to be a little…grown up? I’m 23 now I’d love to see these characters age up too.Simple spoilers/notes (commentary i had while reading)So, this is good for fan fiction writers who what to keep the concept of phantom planet but don’t want the secret out. If you hated phantom planet this will give a restart to that concept. It’s good but I find it’s missing a few things. First off Jazz, just like Danny sam and tucker, would refer to Vlad as Vlad, like her bother and his friends, she has little to no respect for him so she wouldn’t call him “mr masters” I think only valerie did that. (And Danny in vlad’s debut)Danny and Sam still act like friends not a couple. Do we get a peck on the cheek? Yeah but it’s a very blink and you’ll miss it kind of deal. If it’s still new to them, there’s no awkwardness, that fits their dynamic, to show that.No real reaction from Jack and Maddie about their half ghost hybrid son’s older evil alternate timeline counterpart. Like we always get reactions from Sam and tucker and sometimes jazz but overall Jack and Maddie aren’t given a real opinion on such a huge topic. They’re son…who is half dead (Idc about what bs butch hartman has retconned for the story. ghosts are ghosts. The whole electrocution and infection talking about his afterlife in the show’s dialogue)….has an EVIL older alternate counterpart who talks about killing his family…..I get that kids shows designed parents to be idiots [back then] but really? They’re not the least bit surprised about that? At least jazz (like many of the phans have made her do) is consider talking to him, because he’s still Danny! There are just so many blink and you’ll miss it and just missed opportunity kind of deals that leave me more dissatisfied/disappointed while reading.Danny’s powers being weak from a poisonous most likely deadly element [ectoranium] won’t they be worried he was gonna die? And then find out it’s just that he no longer has an obsession?Valerie is shown at the end like as if she’s going to do something. There’s no sign of a part 2 so it doesn’t make much sense to leave that open. Valerie also saying she knew he was evil kinda contradicts the smile/cheer she gave him at the end of phantom planet. And why would she know he was evil. When Danny is wearing the time medallion and says “time in/time out” like it does anything when those just let you not get pulled into time effects. If they do b/c Dan used one to go back in time it’s believable because he’s had a decade of experience vs Danny who is still learning. Also I strictly do not believe this show takes place over a span of 3 years and then what a few months for this book? Does Danny and his friends look 17/18 to you? Not a chance. You can easily reorder the show to fit within a year. each episode is it’s own individual without all of them referencing previous episode plots aside from relations with certain ghosts and other plots like jazz and Valerie. If the characters had some kind of change in their appearance/outfits then it’d be a different story but Danny didn’t even have some kind of shift in appearance when he had that little….what was it? An upgrade? When he finds a new obsession. With Dan, I’m surprised he’s not called that. Most of the Phandom have gone to call him that, it’s less confusing and fits. Also shouldn’t jazz be in college? Funny how this is a (the show included) book about time but doesn’t have the concept of school time. Is this during summer time? Jazz should long be in college or maybe even Danny and his friends starting it up.When I got to the end and saw those options all I could say was “no….oh god no” because it just made phantom planet pointless. Look I don’t like phantom planet but really? Erasing everyone’s memories? It’s like when an author is too afraid to kill off one of the main cast so they revive the character or something. Idk just too tacky/cliche of an ending for me. I just don’t see how undoing so much progress like that makes a story good. At least have his parents remember. Have Dan repent hell it would’ve been cool to see Dan get split back into a very weak plasmius and phantom. Like she saw good phantom’s face. It would’ve been a good plot for a part 2 reacclimating Dan to a normal life. Have him become Danny’s tutor. Or have Danny learn to absorb and control Dan. Danny is designed to be stronger than Vlad. Kind of like Lana from Hyrule warriors with Cia, her evil half.Idk I really love this show and have just found so many alternative endings made my many phans out there that believe the story deserved better so i’m just nitpicking at this point. The story is great, I recommend reading it, I just wish it had a bit more to it. I’ll definitely be keeping this book close to my Danny funko pop that’s for sure!Edit: I was thinking about the ending and it reminded me of something, the ending kinda ripped off Spiderman No Way Home, but like poorly.

Faithful Continuation of A Beloved Story!
This comic was everything I wanted it to be!! It saw the return of some beloved villains and allies alike, and put a unique spin on ghost lore that I, with years in the fandom under my belt, haven't seen done quite in this way before. It was heartfelt, funny, faithful to the original tone of the comics, and very well done overall. The art is also delightful, it made me smile so much. Thank you for this book, I hope we get more in the future!!
