Shirley Valentine [VHS] [1989]

A very good cast and great acting. I watched when I was young and again recently at an older age. It resonated with me at both stages of life. A classic!

Fast delivery of DVD, and the film is just a classic.....

I remember going to the cinema to see Shirley Valentine with my then girlfriend, now wife, after that it became my wife's favourite film. I have always loved romantic comedies, so this is just another of many to be in my must see list.Pauline Collins plays the leading role of a middle-aged housewife experiencing a mid-life crisis amazingly well, and there are excellent performances by all actors including Bernard Hill who plays her husband Joe, and Tom Conti who plays Dimitriades, her Greek love interest.Shirley feeling very lost in her life takes the opportunity to travel to Greece with her friend Jane (Alison Steadman) to get some adventure and excitement into her life, and whilst there, she finds herself. I will not go into any more of the story as it needs to be experienced.Shirley Valentine is a film that will speak to women, but, I think speaks to men equally, as mid-life crises are not gender specific, and these days there are a significant number of house husbands who will feel some of the pain that Shirley experiences.The film is full of humour, but it is touching as well, it is always a film that we watch after having been away on a holiday, or on those grey days where it fills the void.

I hadn’t watched Shirley Valentine for years, so good to see again, looking forward to returning to Greece in September

I love this so much. Can’t fault the dvd. Would buy again tomorrow!

Very intelligent dialogue and picturesque scenes and very entertaining. Loved it!
