The Perfect Start to Digital Photography
Real World Digital Photography is a big undertaking amassing to about 600 pages. I've read a lot of photography books and all of them cover the basic Aperture, Shutter, ISO. What's great about this book though is that it covers almost everything else. It talks in detail about camera sensors, monitor and printer calibration, and why to choose certain types of gear. You won't find many books that have this much information all in one place. If I was starting out in digital photography a second time, this book would be my go-to reference. Eismann leaves no stone unturned and introduces the beginner to almost every aspect involved with digital photography from the capture all the way through to the print. Every topic that is discussed in this book is worth discussing and the authors go into a reasonable amount of depth for each of them. If I had to pick just one digital photography book to have in my collection, this would be it.

Strongly recommend for the new or amateur photographer!
This book is thorough. It was required for a photography class I just took in college, and it presents the information in a way that's easy to understand. There are many, many examples included in the book so you can actually see the differences between almost everything the authors talk about. I found myself reading the rest of the book once the class ended, because I wanted to know more and it's written so well and in a way that's logical and coherent (and occasionally humorous). They spend some time on the digital darkroom (including workflow)-- Lightroom, in particular-- which I didn't expect and fully appreciated. If you have a new camera and you want to know how to maximize its utility, and you want to understand every aspect of photography in a myriad of different situations, get this book.

Seems like some things come in strange orders
Seems like some things come in strange orders, a lot of information and hard to get through. Useful but very dense when you are just learning.

Great intro to photography.
I had to buy this book for an Intro Photography class in college. Most of the students downloaded it for free (at archive.org), so that's an option if you prefer a digital copy. I like "real" books, so this is perfect for me.Many subjects are covered, and it's in an easy to understand format. If you're trying to teach yourself more about photography, this is a great jumping off point. Paired with lots of practice and YouTube (try Mike Browne's tutorials), you'll be a pro in no time!

Digital photography textbook
Required for an introduction to digital photography class, more than a 50% savings for the campus book store.

Wouldn't buy if I didn't need for a class.
There are textbooks that I value and keep...and then there are those that just don't make the cut. This doesn't make the cut. Partially because, this 3rd edition is outdated. If you're getting it as a textbook as well get a new edition. Partially because I didn't garner a lot of new info from this book. Most of it could be learned from the internet, and the book is not succinct or very clear as it teaches. It's not something I would choose to read on my own, and I really would recommend finding a different learning book if you have a choice.
