Tanita RD-545IM

Not happy about this, I was very excited to get this scale today. Even sold one of my road bikes to purchase it. I've used it 3 times in the past 45min and got 3 different body weight measurements and body fat. The overall body weight wasnt off by much but the body fat was terribly inaccurate. The first picture I attached is of the "in body machine" measurements I got done on base "I'm in the army" at our physical fitness facility. The second pic is of the measurements I got today with the tanita. I will be returning this scale ASAP.

Don’t understand the bad reviews. My unit is very accurate as I am able to compare it with an $12000 InBody scan unit on a regular basis. My Dr’s office has a InBody body composition analyzer which is among the most accurate ways to test body composition. On the days I get an analysis at my dr’s office my Tanita unit is within .3 on body fat percentage consistently. The data this unit gives you is incredible for tracking your progress and helps keep you on track to hit goals.

I was very excited to purchase this scale. However, it broke down after 9 months of very light and careful usage - approximately 47 individual weigh-ins. It was really pampered. I talked with a very nice customer service representative, only to discover that the short warranty had expired AND the unit could not be repaired!! What??? Really? I left a voice message for the CEO, but did not receive a reply. Anyway, it serves much better as a $450 paper weight that I haven't had the heart to pitch.Buy another? No way! Instead I bought a $30 Arboleaf scale that I am much happier with. Oh, well! Sorry Tanita, but this needs to be out there.Maybe I got a lemon, but if you buy one, you are taking your chances!

Well, my new body composition scale just insulted me every way possible, and yet, that's why I got it. Seriously, it had a few good things to say which were encouraging. I can also see where I need to put more of my effort. I tend to be obsessive about whatever I do, so I also bought some anatomical models of 'fat' (they even come with magnets you can put on your refrigerator, but I didn't get those), and a model of a muscular body to remind me that muscle is important too. SO, back to the Tanita RD-545IM. It is awesome!Before it arrived, I printed off the user manual and went through it carefully, a good thing because I didn't find a user manual in the box. I'll go look again in a minute. I am the worst at installing aps and figuring out how to use them. I always have to have help. But, this time, I did it all myself. I even printed out my measurements, which was so easy. The ap knew what printer I had and I just pressed enter. I LOVE the fact that I can see written out my Body Mass Index (BMI) (we won't talk about that), and the worst, my body fat. Nobody will ever hear me talk about that - out loud.My left arm, right arm, left leg, left leg, etec., were healthy, the muscle mass and muscle quality were graded. They assign a number to grade your PHYSIQUE, and my rating was...let me say, disappointing..no INSULTING! But that's why I got this thing. The shock value. Believe me, it's working! It gives your Visceral Fat number, which I believe is very important, your basal metabolic rate, and a little more pleasant metabolic age. Not as insulting as that 'physique' rating. It was easy to do and may make a big difference in my life. So glad I decided to get it. Now back to the rowing machine, which is getting results too after being spurred on by the unpleasant 'physique' rating. :)

The scales themselves work very well - consistent and lots of detailed information, broken down by various parts of the body. However, its connectivity to my phone (Android - Samsung S9 in my case) was a major factor in selecting this product, and this software is rather sketchy until you learn its weaknesses. For example, when connecting to the scales, it tells the scales who is about to weigh themselves, but the "i'm waiting" spinning wheel just spins forever, even though its done its job. Once in about 24 weigh-ins so far, the data was immediately uploaded to the phone. the rest of the time, i have to wait for the scales to rotate through their display of all the info obtained, then after the scales have shut down, i push the connect button and the data uploads. Once i learnt to wait (about a minute), it uploads consistently. Pushing the "save" button consistently causes the app to crash, but the data is saved on the phone anyway. If you want to delete the data from one weighing, push and hold that data row and a Delete button appears up top, but the row to be deleted is not highlighted, so its a little scary to then hit delete. But it works ok if you are careful. The data obtained is really thorough and consistent so i highly recommend this product, just be careful with the app. And hopefully they will update the app to fix these issues.

I purchased and bought this scale in hopes of being able to better determine overall body fat percentage and muscle composition. It sounds good in theory, but in reality, the scale almost seems like it is generating random numbers that don't make any sense.I am well aware that there can be variations and fluctuations day to day, but there should not be drastic variations/fluctuations within the same measurements occurring within a few minutes of each other.If there was an overall trend, I would probably try to stick it out longer, but at the end of the day, the cost of this scale does not justify measurements and data that are all over the place.The app is also horrible to use (on Android, did not test it on iOS). You cannot customize the format, and there is not really anything useful other than printing/saving the PDF, and comparing that, rather than attempting to actually use the app to track anything.It is a shame that scales, that are a fraction of the cost of this one, are more reliable (may not be as accurate overall, but at least the measurements are stable) compared to this scale which is all over the place.Save your money and time and invest in a different scale, absolutely stay away from this one, at all costs (pun intended)
