German coming-of-age drama based on the novel by Andreas Steinhöfel. After three weeks away at summer camp, teenager Phil (Louis Hofmann) returns to his home, called Visible, which he shares with his nonconformist mother Glass (Sabine Timoteo) and twin sister Dianne (Ada Philine Stappenbeck), who seems less enthusiastic about his return. After spending the last remaining days of his vacation with best friend Kat (Svenja Jung), Phil returns to school where he falls for attractive newcomer Nicholas (Jannik Schümann). After wrestling with his feelings, Phil is shocked when Nicholas makes the first move on him and he begins his first real love affair. However, his family is still causing problems for Phil as he begins to realise his new relationship with Nicholas might not last forever.

Surprisingly good.
This film exceeded expectations. It was as much to do with the breakdown of the central family as it was the romance and it avoided a lot of cliches.

I really, really enjoyed this movie. The acting was superb, in my opinion. The locations were perfect. The story was believable and compelling. In terms of the disc itself, the picture quality was initially amazing - but I did get some weird lighting effects periodically throughout the film. There are a number of scenes in darkness or very low light, which might have not processed all that well by my 4K tv. The subtitles were unobtrusive and largely accurate (even with my extremely poor German, I saw at least one or two translation errors - but they didn't impact, since I could still at least understand what was going on).Would thoroughly recommend this.

centre of my world
A rather unsatisfactory film: too much mystery, & I didn't really empathise with the main character, Phil. I liked the scenes with the boyfriend, Nicholas.

Amazing film.
An utterly amazing film - one of my favourite ever. A film with everything in it - romance, suspense, cute young cast, and an ending that leaves you smiling and feeling that everything is right in the world - despite not resolving everything. Excellently directed and acted (including an award winning cast) - and based on a beautiful novel. As a film with suspense, the first time you watch it will be the best.

Nothing special
A coming of age film about teenagers within a dysfunctional family.Nothing new in that theme. My overall view is that it was rubbish. In German with English subtitles.

Sex and despair.
This film is about a promiscuous woman and her two troubled children. Without visible means of support they live in a large house with extensive grounds. She is unable to give them the stable family background or the moral boundaries that they crave, seemingly unwilling or unable to commit herself to anyone or anything. She is a puzzle and an embarrassment to her children. The story encompasses poisoning, infidelity, disloyalty and betrayal as both children seek to find security elsewhere and fail. It is beautifully filmed and well acted but, having read the other reviewers, I feel I must be living in a a parallel universe to theirs.
