It can possibly be removed as it looks like it does not really play a role In stability

Is there a sight I can find the instructions if they were not in the box?

Not that I found. It took 3 people and about 8 hours to put our bed together. I strongly recommend organizing pieces by number prior to starting. Even though it was not easy to read directions or put the bed together, we are happy with the purchase.
