The Phantom of the Opera (Widescreen Edition) by Gerard Butler

I've enjoyed this movie since it came out. It is interesting that the complex emotional story is almost entirely delivered in music and song, unlike some musicals where people talk a lot and then break into musical numbers. The story is engaging, the actors well cast for their roles and clearly are putting their hearts into their performances. The comical parts comical, the poignant moments poignant and the scary stuff scary. The character development is well done and the music will sink into your soul. I recommend watching this on the biggest screen with the best sound system you can muster. And if you don't have a decent sound system see if you can hook some headphones up to your TV. Some TVs have headphone jacks or bluetooth. That would make a difference since the sounds really do carry the story.

This widely acclaimed movie confirms to me once again that I need to be extremely cautious with trusting the canned entertainment valuations. The DVD arrived quickly, worked just fine, and I’m sure all the entertainment industry’s artful renderings came across as good as one can expect on the TV – but this thing put me to sleep (really) and I won’t be watching it a second time. If one feels that “Apocalypse Now” reasonably represents warfare, then one will be able to rationalize that “Phantom” fairly characterizes the theater. But, in fairness, the flick had an uphill battle anyway – I generally dislike musicals, and despite all “Phantom’s” pageantry, after this one I like them less.

I love “Phantom of the Opera” and this is a great version. I’ve seen it on stage and several movie versions. This one is my favorite! Finally a Phantom who is vulnerable and real. Not a monster.

An unbelievable production of this theatrical masterpiece. We liked the movie better than the live production! Butler is the best Phantom!

What a good movie. Gerard Butler's voice is amazing

It is super romantic. The music throughout the movie is absolutely amazing, and the story is so bittersweet.

This is the next best rendition after the Michael Crawford and Sara Brightman original
