A rewarding workout
For those who like finely chopped ice chips, this is a nice tool to have. It can take some effort to achieve the quality of ice you want, but it's satisfying once you're there. I rate it 3 stars though because the blades got rusty really quick.

Comparison of 4 ice crushers
I bought four ice crushers, (1) the Gourmia GIC9635 Ice Shaver, (2) the Nuvantee Manual Ice Crusher - Rust-Proof Zinc Alloy Construction - Carbon Steel 430 Blade - Hand Crank Ice Grinder, (3) the Portable Hand Crank Ice Crusher by VICTORIO VKP1126, and (4) the Viski 4371 Professional Lewis Bag and Mallet. After reading all of the other reviews on the durability hand crank models, it was clear that the way to make the hand crank models last longer was to feed them smaller ice cubes, so I broke up normal ice cubes with the Viski mallet and bag first and then poured the contents of that bag into the three hand cranked models. I could tell by the low cranking resistance that any of the three hand cranked models would last longer this way, but it is time consuming. The difference between the three hand cranked models that I tested is in the fineness of the ice particles put out by the crushers. Of the three hand cranked models I tested, the ice was finest, after having run the already crushed ice back through each of the crushers 3 times, with the Gourmia. I think that this occurred because the Gourmia is actually an ice shaver. with blades running horizontally, whereas the blades in the other two operate vertically. The box that the Gourmia comes in has a photo of a drink with very finely crushed ice on the side of the box. However, aster running the ice through the Gourmia three times, I was never able to achieve a crushed ice product anywhere near as finally crushed as shown in the photo on the box. So if you're trying to make a drink such as a pina colada (as I was) with ice crushed into a fine slush like mixture, I question whether the Courmia ice crusher is the one for you.

Perfect for heavy ice eaters
I originally had an electric one. The retro looking one also available on Amazon. The door broke day one and it was VERY bulky and a pain to clean. It made me not even want ice. This one is perfect!Tips-If you use larger ice cubes, it will "shave" the ice (as pictured). If you used already semi crushed ice, it will just crush it down more to more manageable pieces. Both are great and easier on the teeth. If you let the ice "sweat" in a bowl on the counter for about 5-10 minutes, it's easier to crush.I lay my forearm on the top for more pressure while I spin the handle.Others have noted the handle is flimsy. I am just careful to crank it smoothly. Even if it broke after a month I'd feel that I got an extremely great amount of use out of it and I'd buy it again in a heartbeat .It is SO easy to rinse, small enough to not be burdensome but big enough to give you a great amount of ice. It takes me about an hour to get through the ice that it makes.

Shaved ice? Mostly
I love to chew on ice but homemade ice from trays are too hard. I got this to make slushies or to just shave ice to eat plain. I also use this to shave ice to pack into a center compartment in my bento box. Not only does it keep food cold but it's a calorie free dessert item. You can pour a little soda over it or use it for mixed drinks but you need to find the right rythym to crank the crusher. For me it works best when I add one cube to each suize, turn it about 25 times and repeat. The collection container can hold an entre tray of crushed ice. My Yeti tumbler hold about 8 crushed ice cubes to I transfer the rest to a small 6 ounce cube. I use a spoon to press down on the crushed ice so I can pop it out later for a nicwly formed 'cube' I consider it worth it if you aren't pressed for time or get frustrated quickly.

Handle breaks very easily - Two purchased within 3 months and both broken already :(
I love the product because I am an "Ice eater" lol, and it shaves pretty well. Sometimes you might get a couple of bigger chunks that made it past the blade but over all its doable. Well I ordered my first on on Nov 3, 2018, and because I am overseas in Iraq it takes 3 weeks to get to me from the date of order. I received it on Nov 23, 2018; however, in Dec the little turn piece broke off. I went to find superglue to serve as a temporary solution while I placed an order for another one. I ordered my second machine on Jan 2, 2019, which didn't arrive until around the Jan 23rd. Well Feb 27, 2019 my handle broke AGAIN in the same area, so I pulled out my superglue to try and fix it . I love the product but for two to break so fast I don't understand. I will say this, the super glue has held up stronger than the actual product itself, but I am scared that it might not last long. It sucks because I am not in the US where I can just go to the store and purchase one, I actually have to wait the 3 weeks for the mail system. I wish it was a little more sturdy or if you have another version or electric one I would try it.

Not a bad ice shaver
I like this ice shaver. It's easy to use although manual. Sometimes I have to shake the ice a bit to get it going, but that's ok. You also can only turn the wheel in one direction to make it work. So, if you look at it and nothing is happening, try turning the handle the other way.You will get bigger chunks towards the end of the shaving, I think they just fall through. If you don't like that, I would suggest stopping before you get to the end of the ice. I gave it 4 stars because of the chunks.

Perfect for my uncle
I bought this for my uncle a while ago because he loved eating ice but couldn’t stand when he’d have huge chunks in his cup. He was fighting throat cancer and the Ice helped soothe his inflammation. It was perfect for home easy to use, light weight, and very effective!

Manual Hand Crank Operated Ice Breaker - does the job
This does the job nicely. Don't overload the top, easier to add a few Ice cubes as you go. In 1.5 minutes you have shaven a full ice cube tray. You can store in a freezer bag. The handle looks a bit fragile but no issues so far. Great for the money paid.

Good product
Nice product! Sometimes i feel like the handle could be a bit more solid as it feels like it will break but so far it has not and i was using pretty big ice cubes too which plays in the balance. Overall though I am happy with this product.

Not sure yet
they call t a crusher, but it is really a shaver. Says no where with any info with the product, is it dishwasher safe. will report back if and when when I receive an answer from them. All plastic other than the blades that i can see.

Love it!
Easy to use, to clean, to store. Allows full control over how much you want (we usually shave off a bit of the ice cubes, use the snow and the remaining portion of the cubes to have a good mix). Great product!

This thing is FRICKEN BRILLIANT! If you are an avid Ice eater like myself, this thing is glorious if you dont have a built in shredded Ice into your fridge. The only down side, I wish it was bigger!
