Covert Affairs: Season 3

Season 3 Breaks Into Excellence!
I've watched seasons 1-3 of Covert Affairs and Seasons 1 and 2 I rated 4/5 stars while Season 3 clearly breaks through the barriers that had caused me to hold back making this show among my favorites as they storyline matured and I no longer felt like I was watching a show without depth. Season 3 left me looking forward sad at the prospect of only two more seasons to watch and an unknown state of the current show. Bottom line is the writers have Annie graduate into being a full fledged operative as I would expect in a good spy story as she bucks the system and follows her instincts which are proving to be an asset in spite of them having caused her to be used in the first two Seasons. Season 3 we see a fully armed agent driven to go out and take on the issues others stand back from. The betrayal of season 2 has left her hardened and stronger but still a likeable main character you can't help but pull for and each show wanting you to see the next. Watching seasons for the first time via streaming allows the viewer to get more engrossed than when waiting week(s) between episodes. That has caused me to enjoy shows I likely would never have watched if not for streaming, but then there is the added benefit of being able to watch it when I want (and have the time) instead of when they choose to put it on that has simply given me access to more shows. Covert Affairs graduates to fully developed in Season 3 with story lines moving quickly on every front. Personal, professional, international, and then the development of some of the sub-plots that until now were clearly a part of the show but now all the pieces are in place so that the details behind the stories and "where the bodies are buried" from the past are now becoming relevant to the current story, and with each show more interdependent with the story to date with each new piece of information. That is the key to Season 3 being a step forward as much of the back story line subjects are now becoming clearly center stage as they reveal being part of what has gone on in our main characters story to date. But like a good story we only know a piece at a time with each revelation making the interest rise and the desire to watch the next episode go up. Season 3 has launched the show into one of my favorites and one in which I have high hopes for the story lines both developing and being played out as the past, present and future come together to make the show more intense and engaging than the first two seasons. This also serves to bring some balance by making many of these back burner stories turn out to be linked to what has gone on in Annie's adventures to date. Now simply hoping that the trend continues and I get to enjoy the same level of enjoyment going forward as Season 3 brought me to. The show can turn in an episode, and frequently does, which is now what is making it a thrill to watch.

Sluts
When the series first began, i had high hopes for the protagonist. Truthfully, the depiction of this slim, slight woman not being able to physically overpower large, strong men skilled in combatives is refreshingly realistic. Similarly she's not able to outshoot a host of opponents with equal or greater firepower. The plots are fairly good, character development is quite good, and there's a fair amount of surprises in store. The disappointment? At first she didn't hop into bed with enemy spies, and didn't even hop into bed with that many boyfriends. But as the seasons went on, the character of the protagonist devolved into the area of slutiness. If you're into watching shows for sex, this one's for you, but it's not my cup of tea; there's way too much promiscuity in the world today and what it gets you is disappointment and diseases.

Wonderful Series
If you like mysteries and you like undercover operations - and you like spy stories - it's a perfect series.Piper Perabo is absolutely wonderful as Annie - a CIA operative. She grows into her acting ability by Season 3. The first two season - while great - there were moments of underwhelming acting and moments of way over the top dramatic acting. But by this season - Piper has settled into her role. This series is a great one. There are so many different characters that weave in and out of the action that it's never boring. As with Piper - some of the other actors are either over or under-whelming at times - but that's to be expected. The one constant is Auggie (played by Christopher Gorham). He is WONDERFUL in his role. There is no way to NOT fall in love with Auggie. He's sweet and charismatic and wonderfully supportive - yet totally helpless at the same time. He is every woman's version of the perfect man - in emotions - and my view of a VERY sexy man - as a body. And he's shirtless quite often thankfully :)Add in the wonderful characters of Annie's boss - Joan Campbell (played by a seriously awesome actress in Kari Matchett) - her husband and Annie's boss' boss - Arthur Campbell (played by the beautiful man that is Peter Gallagher), and a steady influx of boyfriends/love interests and it's difficult to NOT like the show. The show began as being a bit campy - a bit straightlaced - although good - and has created itself instead as being a very good spy show. It has grown - as has Piper's acting. And Anne Dudek as her sister is a great casting coup - although she's not on the show as much as I would like her to be.They did lose a great cast member in Sendhil Ramamurthy (who played Jai) - but it was necessary. I haven't been able to see the 4th season yet - but will as soon as it becomes available. But the first 3 seasons of the show have something for everyone - men and women both - as well as children - although I don't know that I'd let YOUNG ones watch it - not that it's crazy bad - I've seen movies with PG13 ratings that are racier than most of the show - but as a parent - *I* wouldn't allow my young kids to watch it - 15 or above - I think you're okay - ....

A great third season of a show that should have been on a mainstream channel on British TV. A must-have for your collection and please just take your time to watch again some clever action sequences.
