Perfect introduction
These books are a perfect introduction to classics. A child of about 8 can sit down and read this alone, understand the characters and storyline, and come away with a grasp of the author. Definantely will advance an intelligent child that doesn't always get a proper state education and wants more. My 8yo daughter yearns for a better education than the school she is in and hopes for grammar and this sort of reading will aid in developing her education at home.

Lovely adaptation for children
I bougth this for my eight year old daughter as she loves the film. Amid all the chaos on Christmas morning she was sat among the gift wrap reading her book, she couldn't put it down. Nice and simple but true to the story and not too long for younger readers. Highly recommended!

6 star reading series
Usborne Young Reading is an outstanding series of condensed versions of classic works of children's and adult literature, along with a few non-fiction titles. We have about a dozen of these now as my daughter is getting through about one a week. They are intended for children who are beginning to read alone but they are equally suited to an earlier stage with a child reading aloud to an adult. As well as being exciting stories with lovely illustrations, there is a high level of consistency in reading standard within each of the three levels - not just text size and word count but most importantly difficulty of individual words (which is where most "reading books" fall down). There are also speech bubbles in some of the illustrations, often amusing ones, which go down very well. Different titles also introduce a good variety of non-English names, acronyms, abbreviations, dates etc. I cannot recommend this series highly enough.

Pride and Prejudice for young readers
This is one in Series 3 of the Usborne Young Reading series, and is ideal for those who have developed confidence and are ready for longer stories. It is a delightful adaptation, which retains much of the feel of the original - although I do hope that readers don't think that they have 'done' Pride and Prejudice and miss out on the joy of reading the original. The illustrations, too, are a perfect reflection of the period and really convey the emotions of the characters. Young readers are introduced to the world of the Bennet family and share in the drama as the story unfolds. A lovely introduction to the world of Jane Austen.

A fantastic read
Usborne really know what they are doing with these adaptations. My six year old daughter loves the Usborne Young Reading series, just wish they did more!
