From ancient mathematicians to modern trailblazers, join television legend Johnny Ball on an incredible and exciting adventure as he teaches you maths! Numbers are used in everyday life for many vital functions, from making scientific breakthroughs to equally dividing that last piece of pie. Mathematics need not be seen as a dull subject, and this book will help you see exactly that. Adding a fun and wonderful twist to regular modes of learning, Mathmagicians will give you puzzles to solve, conundrums to crack, and cool tricks to show off to friends. Using fascinating experiments, funky illustrations, and easy-to-follow language, the book narrates the story of how the field of mathematics developed, and shows you why the world cannot function without it. What makes Pi one of the weirdest numbers in the world? How can you weigh your head without chopping it off? How can you build your own cool sundial? Find answers to these questions and much more as you go about becoming a whizz with numbers. Flip through the bright and colourful pages of Mathmagicians to discover how numbers enable us to explore, plan, and build just about everything. Review: Eight year old grandson loves this book, so do his parents. - I bought the Mathmagicians book because the reviews were very encouraging and I was looking for something to keep my 8 year old grandson enjoying math so he could do well and keep his academic confidence up. He loves it, thinks it's fun and tries to work out the puzzles and questions on his own. His parents love it too and they often work the questions out together like a game. My daughter, who like me did not do well in math, wishes she had the Mathmagicians book when she was in primary school as it makes math fun and interesting to learn...I wish I'd had it too. Review: how to make maths your favourite subject - I love Johnny Ball and all his children's maths programmes were so educational. What a shame that they are no longer available. This book fills the gap though. Easy to understand, great fun for parents and children to work with and enjoy. Not patronising and does not talk down to anyone, but teaches maths in a great way!

This is a great book. My daughter has no confidence with maths
This is a great book. My daughter has no confidence with maths, which we are trying everything to change. This book is simple and as you would expect (if you're a 40 something) explained brilliantly by the wonderful Johnny Ball.

Book to buy for a great nephew (niece!)
Having a bright 8 year old nephew who is very mathematically minded. Loads of interesting information to stimulate the mind. It's not a book to read cover to cover, but where items to catch your interest. It's also a book to grow into (perhaps more for the average 9 year old, but with an adult, a great deal of pleasure will come from it.)

Very good book from this range
Very good book from this range, worth buying and keeping even if your children are not old enough to read it yet. Or buy it and read it with them, fun book which may break some barriers some child encounter with Maths.

This book has great content and one can learn the evolution of Maths, purpose of triangles, trignometry, pythogarus theorem etc and how the greeek measured the Earth with a Stick, measured the distance of a ship with shadow. Very interesting book and one can build a story of how maths evolved and is used.
