Gilmour 810044-1001 Rose Duster, Brown/A

I bought this specifically to spray diatomaceous earth, DA. I am pleased with the performance. It spays a nice amount of dust which you can control with the length, force of your thrusts and how long you keep pumping in one area.. I use it for spraying around the outside of the house for insects and in the garden to try to keep the slugs and snails under control. I particularly like DA because it is safe to eat, and I take a tablespoon twice a day for old age splotches. The DA doesn't seem to work that well on millipedes but the sprayer does well to put out a coating to the thickness or density you desire. For bugs on leaves, the sprayer can apply on top or under the leaves. If you need to apply a powder, this is better than any DIY device I've found and it is quite inexpensive. Some people complain about the squeak of the plastic while pumping. I couldn't care less, just as long as it does what it is supposed to do. If the squeak bothers you, use a little silicone or teflon lube on the shaft. I wish it had a clear window so you could see the level of the powder in the tank. Not critical but it would be nice

I've had this applicator since 2011 when it helped me successfully get rid of a bad infestation of bedbugs. Once they were gone, I put this into my garage and pretty much forgot about it. When shopping for another DE applicator, Amazon reminded me that I had already purchased this one, so I went out to my garage and found it. It still works great, happily dusting out the leftover DE still left inside since 2011! I used it to puff all over in an area where there are HUGE black widows and their sticky webs (a dead giveaway). If this applicator + DE can get rid of bedbugs, I am sure that it'll handle those awful black widows and other creepy-crawlies! I'm also going to use it in my garden area for ants, snails, and any other things like spiders and beetles that it can puff away. Highly recommended!

This DE distributer works ok but not consistently. When it works, it's great, spreading the DE nicely. The frustrating part is the nozzle. It won't stay on. It drops off periodically due to the air pressure. So you need to keep an eye on it especially when you are using it in a deep garden bed because it can get lost easily. I'm hoping that can be fixed with duct tape but it remains to be seen. Going to try and get it to work for me rather than return it because it can spread the DE more uniformly than I can and to places harder for me to reach.

I just got this duster to dust seven onto my small fruit trees. Other reviews I've read on this are accurate. Yes, the handle squeaks when you pump it. Yes, some powder comes out the back onto your hands (not much). Yes, the end tends to fall off and you have to push it back on now and then. But, I feel like it did a really good job misting the dust onto my trees. It didn't glob out the end. I was shaking it about every 5th pump and if anything I wish it would have pumped it out a little faster. It never plugged (and it's about 95 degrees and humid today). It seems to use the chemical pretty efficiently. I dusted 12 trees pretty heavy with about 1/2 canister of powder and still have some left. For the money I spent on this I feel like it's a pretty good deal and does what I want. I just used it for the first time today so I can't speak to the durability of it, but it's pretty heavy plastic so I think it will hold up for what I intend to use it for. It's not professional grade, but not bad for personal use. Better than spreading power with a cottage cheese container....

The perfect way to dust. This product works great with diatomaceous earth. Others break down with continued use because of the abrasive properties of DE. The Gilmour does not. The long snoot delivery tube is also a big plus for us older gardeners with back or knee problems. We love it. I recommend this product to anyone wanting to efficiently dust their garden. It is well constructed and uses the tried and true vintage design.

I bought this to apply diatomaceous earth to my plants. When I opened the box, the unit was inside already assembled. When I opened it up there was a plastic tub with holes in it, that wasn't attached to anything. There was only one place it would fit, so setting it up was real easy. I filled the canister just under 1/4th then went outside and tested it against my roses. I pulled the handle, pushed it in, then a big cloud of DE came out. It doesn't dust them as evenly as I hoped. Some times when I pushed the handle it I would get a fine mist, then other times I would get a big thick burst. The action is also a bit loud. It was getting dark and as I was dusting the plants it was making a very loud squeaking noise and woke my neighbor's dog.If I had bought this locally at a garden center, I would have returned it the same day. Since I bought it online I'm just going to make the best out of it. It does work. Just not as good as I would have hoped. When I was shopping I did my best to avoid the cheaper models fearing they wouldn't do a good job. Looks like even the more expensive models have the same problem.

I had a bug problem in my home garden and I had owned an ancestor of this type of duster. It was given to me by an elderly gentleman when I gardened out in the country here in North Carolina. It was misplaced years ago. I had since used a pump liquid dispenser for SEVIN. It was OK but liquid SEVIN is very expensive. You cannot imagine my joy to find it here on Amazon.com. I immediately put it to use. This is a simple yet very durable tool. I just dump some SEVIN dust in it, screw the top on and I am ready to go. One can dust as lightly or heavily as he or she wishes. Just be careful not to breathe the dust in. It is easy as one can see the way the dust is blowing. Use this in 'no wind' or 'slight wind' situations for best results. Morning or evening is best. This duster is stoutly built, but not unbreakable. It is built of plastic, but a very durable thick plastic. I judge it to be as durable as any duster made. It is better than the metal duster I once had. This duster is a LOT more economical to use (with SEVIN) than any liquid duster I owned. There is no maintenance to it - just keep it in a dry place when storing it. I gave it a five star rating -only because I could not give it six stars.

This is so much better then the handheld bulb you have to squeeze. It works like a bike pump, and yes like all manual handheld sprayers, they all have issues that require some diligence. If you add spray silicon lubricant to the metal shaft it will not squeak as you pump it. And when you fill the tank with powder do NOT overfill and make sure you turn the pump every once in a while so the powder does not clump up and get stuck.This works beautifully. Great price and well made. I have a big garden and yard and does a lot ....

Works okay for lighter smaller jobs in my opinion. I used for a large potato patch and I need something that is more heavy duty,

We use this unit for applying Diatomaceous Earth to our garden. I would have given this unit a 5 star rating if the plastic screen would stay in place. Other than a need to apply some glue to the base of this screen or have it screw on... the unit works well.

Great product for dusting

Have not used it yet... but looks to be of good quality
