Can I keep it upside down (wood part on bottom) or will it just all leak out? Seems to dry very quickly if only upside down for 10 seconds

I wouldn't recommend it as it would soak through the string and drip leading it to empty quickly shortening it's expected 'life'. It's recommended to tip upside down until you can see it soak the wood, this should give a good bit of fragrance for a couple of days, repeat when needed.
