So far, so good
So I have a fly problem. A serious fly problem. This year has been even worse and it's still spring. I've bought and tried several products. All have been very disappointing. Even my fly paper rolls failed me! So, I'm done. This is war. Time for the little flying b*tches to die! So I started researching and this thing had fantastic reviews. Except for the smell. Everyone complains about the smell. I finally decided I could deal with the funk and ordered this. Set one up as soon as I got it. As this has no pesticide in it, I couldn't figure out how they dies. So I added a little bit of Dawn dish soap to the water. (This is war.). Set it pretty close to one of the cats litter boxes. First few hours were not too impressive. By the next morning there was a noticeable decrease in the little devils. So I set up the second one. Without the dish soap. As the day wore on, more and more flies bit the dust. One reviewer mentioned that her fly magnet became a breeding ground. I did notice that the one with just the bait and water had killed some flies but was starting to look like a Sandals resort so the second one got a squeeze of Dawn too. (I had intended to do a comparison between the two mixtures, but see previous declaration of war.).As for the smell. Will Bath and Body Works make a candle out of it? No. But if you can deal with a litter box, this isn't bad. I suspect the smell will get worse with time so I bought refills of the bait mixture. This way if it gets too bad, I will flush out the old stuff and start over.I realize it's only been about two days, but so far I am very impressed! If this continues to work I plan to get another set for different areas.Oh, and the "hanging loop" is just a glorified twist tie. No worries though as I didn't bug it for that reason.

Only worked once
I purchased one to use in the heat of the summer. I set it next to the trash bins. It worked like magic. I could put up with the smell of rotten eggs and fly carcasses. Hundreds of flies were drowning. So my husband told me to order a bunch more... I followed the same directions. I put one hanging from a small tree in a shaded area, and I put another one by the trash cans. Well, this time it didn’t work so well. A couple days later I checked on the hanging one and it probably had a thousand maggots crawling out of it! It basically turned into a fly breeding ground and even though there was liquid still in the jar, somehow those little jokers were managing to thrive in there. I checked the second trash can one and it only had about four flies floating in it. I ended up throwing the maggoty one in a trash bag and the one by the trash bins got knocked over at some point and I can still smell the rotten eggs months later... so I will not be buying this again. I just don’t know why it didn’t consistently work

NOT FOR SMALL YARDS.
Be the judge on the size of your yard, I can't tell you how big my property is but it isn't very large, and alot of homes built in communities with HOA may have a 'small yard'.Anyway, this thing WORKS. It works way too well its disgusting. This may be more suitable for farmers, people with .5 acre of land or more. Why is the size of property so important? because this thing is insane, it attracts flies like crazy. I actually believe more flies were in my area than ever. I bought this because I have many pets and their poop is everywhere.[maybe I didnt have the best scenario for this type of use]However, I decided to get rid of this item. It works too well, I believe any fly in my community was attracted to it haha.Anyway, if you're like me and had a problem picking poop up daily, [I was a weekly scooper] you will be better off just getting off your boot and picking the poop up immediately and discarding. If you came to this item because of a fly problem, I would try to find the issue, mold, bodies of water sitting, poop, dead animal, whatever. if its something that you can pick up and toss, you should do this.I tried to find a solution to my problem by being lazy.Anyway, it works, I don't recommend for small yards.I now pick up poop every other day and haven't had any fly problems

Worked somewhat
We used this inside the house to curb a particularly bad fly problem this summer. The smell was bad but not unbearable, no problems keeping this in the bathroom. It did catch a few flies, but didn't seem to make a dent in our problem.

Works well
This works well! Definitely serves its purpose to catch flies. It does smell terrible so needs to be placed in a low traffic area outside to avoid the stench.

This stuff hammers flies.
Incredible...Put it out on the porch where we feed the pets...always lots of flies there in summer. Within 2 days the first one we put out there is already full of dead flies and needs to be dumped but we are going to try to filter out the flies and keep using the bait...a nasty job to be sure. But we did not buy extra bait and ordered that but it has a long lead time getting here. It's expensive. But this trap works like a champ and we are very happy with it. It does stink bad but it's outside...I know my wife will not allow this in the house.

Effective, but really stinky over time.
Very effective, but very stinky. After about 10 days there were so many dead flies that the flies that went into the jar laid eggs and maggots formed which is the opposite of what I was looking to do. I ended up filling the whole jar with water and covered the holes until all the flies and maggots drown. I then poured the whole mess down the sewer clean out. I have since put a couple of freezer burned shrimp in the bottle and filled it with about 2 cups of water. Seems nearly as effective as the bait the trap came with, but far less stinky.
