Q: To the hearing aid users: What sort of devices (besides TV) are you plugging into the inputs on this switcher?

All the inputs (3) on this unit only accept Digital Optical Audio in and the unit outputs Digital Optical Audio via 1 output. I have used a TV & a Bluetooth receiver on the input side, with a Bose soundbar on the output side. It works just fine. I would expect any device that can provide Digital Optical Audio output would work just fine with this unit.

Q: Does this product support 7.1 surround sound?

My home theater setup is dolby 5.1/2. I have never felt the need for an extra rear center channel & subwoofer, because it doesn't fit my lifestyle, & most DVD movies are 5.1 anyway. So depending on the receiver being used, & whether the aforementioned extra rear speakers can be "synthesized" rather than having to be "discreet" , this device is an optical input selector, so if everything in your system is 7.1, it might work theoretically, but as I said before, I'm a 5.1 user. Hopefully this is helpful?

Q: How can I listen to TV and head phones at the same time

I run my Digital Optical from my TV into a headphone amp. I have no problem listening to my tv and my headphones at the same time. My TV plays sound through the speakers no matter what so in order to just use my headphones I have to turn my TV all the down. It does not effect the volume of my headphones as the volume controls for both are completely separate between the TV and headphone amp.

Q: Can I use two of the 3 ports at the same time?

No, you cannot. You have 3 channels to use for 3 different devices, but you cannot use 2 or more at the same time. Essentially... my one port (out) goes to my Toslink IN of my Tascam monitor, which sends the sound/signal out to my sound system. The other 3 ports are IN's from port 1 (PS4), port 2 (Roku), & port 3 (TV), which can only be used individually thru the OUT port to my Tascam (Monitoring/Speaker) system. For me, this works GREAT, because I am not going to play a video on my PS4 while watching a TV show at the same time, thru my surround sound system. If you need something that does multiple devices at the same time, you are probably looking for a more "professional grade" option?
