OEM Quality
I worked in IT for twenty years, and I have a great deal of experience with printers. Our organization used HP laser printers almost exclusively, and they proved to be very durable for the most part. Each department was responsible for purchasing their own print consumables, such as paper and toner, and we always recommended that they purchase genuine HP toner cartridges. It was a rare case when a department deviated from our advice, but occasionally we would get a call about a laser printer streaking, spotting, or coughing out excess toner - the cause was always due to aftermarket toner cartridges. Now that I am retired, I was tempted to save a little money, as HP charges a premium for their products, but I went with the genuine article. You pop it in, and it works.

Best Replacement Toner Cartridges for Your HP Printer
Over the years, I, like many others, went to third-party cartridge brands because of the eye-wateringly high prices of printer cartridges. In most cases, I was sorely disappointed. Many of these would not print evenly, made horrible noises, and were of notoriously uncertain usefulness in terms of the number of print cycles. I've come to feel that, for my HP printer, it is worth it--in spite of the price of these things--to go with the original HP replacement. They print evenly, more quietly, and are made to a higher level of quality in most all cases. I honestly wish I could say otherwise because of cost factors, but this is where this quest has led me after buying toner cartridges for 20+ years.I use this HP 80A cartridge on my HP LaserJet 400 M401dn (although the cartridge fits other HP models), and I've been happy with its performance. There is also a much more expensive version of the cartridge, the HP 80X, which has a higher number of print cycles to it, but for a basic OEM HP cartridge, I have been happy with this item. I rate it four stars ONLY because of the price. The quality itself is excellent, and I therefore can recommend it with little hesitation. The other version:HP 80X LaserJet Toner Cartridge, Black

It is toner and it works great
HP toner is always the best when it comes to quality and guarantee that it will work. Also the printer complains less when it is installed . I know it is not something most folks agree with but hey it works for me.

HP quality, costly but worth it
As with many things, I try to save money where possible. However, when it comes to toner cartridges for printers, whether CYM or black, there is no substitute for HP OEM cartridges for business and other critical applications. I have tried the clones, but keep coming back to HP and paying up for their quality. Casual users can find cheaper works for them, but if you are a professional, there is no substitute. My $0.02
