Drama based on the novel by Jacqueline Wilson. April (Dakota Blue Richards) is a young teenager who was abandoned in a dustbin when she was a newborn baby. Since that day April has endured a troubled childhood, moving from one foster family to another. When, on her 14th birthday, she has an argument with her latest guardian, Marion (Juliet Stevenson), April decides to go in search of her biological mother. Can April find her future path by retracing her past?

A must-have for Dakota Blue fans.
I enjoyed this movie very much. Although I purchased it only because it stars Dakota Blue Richards, it turned-out to be an exciting story with a spot-on message about what it really means to care for someone. If you are a fan of either Richards or Juliet Stevenson, you will be amply rewarded. Wholesome (yet well-produced) movies like this are at a premium in the United States, so I am very happy to have stumbled across this British version of Amazon. I now have a whole world of choices other than the standard American fare of pointless violence and monotonous materialism. The English-speaking people of the world are benefitted greatly by the existence of British media-- however, there are not nearly enough films starring Dakota Blue Richards. I think she should be in EVERY movie.

Heartfelt
I watched this movie on t.v. and brought it. This movie made me cry. The teenager in the movie is very rebellious and has a checkered past due to her involvement with others children in the orphanage. She struggles on until she is adopted by a spinster teacher turned art curator who is completely the opposite to her. They live together in a not so harmonious situation with the teenager still rebelling and feeling a bit stifled. On her sixteenth birthday she wants to try and find her real mother and ask why she left her in a dustbin? The story follows her investigations until she meets the man who found her in the dustbin and after a lot of distress on her adopted mothers part the teenager realizes it is she who really cares for her and accepts her as her mother.

Dustbin Baby Review
Wow! This fim is about an emotional journey that a girl called April undergoes to discover her past and find out more about what she was like as a very young infant and how she was discovered-in a dustbin outside a pizza parlour. This film really highlights the struggles and troubles that teenagers might go through, but is fun and intriguing at the same time. I would recommend this film to anyone who relishes a good story, but I would also recommed a tissue box because if you'r anything like me and will cry at anything then this film might just do that!I have watched it several times and still get enjoyment from it, a good buy.

Dustbin Baby is AWESOME!
Dustbin baby is a mixed emotions story. The acting is very realistic and definitely touches on real life matters. April had a poor start in life when she was dumped in a dustbin as a baby. She was found and placed in care. The story follows her life from home to home until she meets Marion who provides her with a home but on April's birthday, things do not go too smoothly as she sets out to discover where she came from. This touching story brings a tear to your eye, a hope to your soul and sometimes even a laugh out loud... This film stars Dakota Blue Richards, Juliet Stevenson and David Haig. A review doesn't sum up how great this film is and its guaranteed to turn you around.

Could have had more content of the later life of the baby.
I brought this DVD has it sounded a good story about an abandoned baby and it's search years later, but I found the story was more about her early life and nothing much towards the end about her finding anything out about herself, not what I was expecting from the film.

Gritty and moving.
this was infinitely better than I expected: I was a huge Jacqueline Wilson fan as a child and her books still move me to this day, I thought that particularly with a PG rating only, this adaptation would fail to capture what I loved about the book. I was pleasantly surprised by the maturity of the work, there wasn't any of the dumbing down and sugar coating I was dreading. The cast was remarkable without exception Dakota Blue Richards being the standout but the younger Aprils were incredibly good for such young children. This really isn't just for kids(in fact its more suited to older children than the under tens) and is a realistic and heart-warming look at issues of trust abandonment and finding your real family. Highly recommended .

Wonderful
Juliet Stevenson and Dakota Blue Richards give outstanding performances in a film exploring the emotions and feelings of an abandoned child in care as she searches for her roots. As a parent of adopted children I can identify with the highs and lows of both April and Marion. If there is a criticism, it is the limitations of time imposed by a feature film which make it harder to see the long, difficult journey involved in trying to repair the damage of a bad start in life.

Brilliant
Dustbin baby is a brilliant movie that I highly recommend. Based on a hugely popular children's novel by Jacqueline Wilson it relates the story of April, who was born on April 1st, abandoned and left for dead in a dustbin behind a pizza restaurant. Rescued by a pizza boy who thought she was a cat trapped in the bin, her life continues to be blighted by abuse and tragedy. The story is told in a series of flashbacks as April, played by Dakota Blue Richards (Golden Compass) skips school on a quest to trace her birth mother. Her adoptive mother, Marin Bean played by Juliet Stevenson, is frantically trying to find her meanwhile, blaming herself for April running away because she did not give her a mobile phone for her sixteenth birthday. Both Dakota and Juliet are superb in their respective roles, as is the remainder of the cast - in particular Sylvia Hodgson as the vicious Pearl.
