Awesome when it works
Update: they did a firmware update and it works awesome now It's great when it works but unfortunately mine didn't. They worked for a few days then they started to reset steps and not sync. I chatted with Garmin and here was their response. "Thank you. We do have an engineering ticket open for this issue, but no timeline as to when it will be resolved. It is not with all units, but they have not narrowed down what the cause of it is as of yet. You can either return it with Amazon, or we can exchange it here and get you a replacement vivofit 4 module" I already ordered one from Amazon and had to return it for a replacement. I want to do it again but who know if I get one that works and I feel bad continually ordering and replacing since I don't want to get banned from ordering. I got it on Prime Day to so got a good deal on it.

Perfect simple fitness tracker watch
I bought this for my mother who didn't need or want a smart watch that can do everything her cell phone does. This watch is perfect. Ez to use, only 1 button. EZ to setup. EZ to sync. No charging EVER. That's golden. Who wants one more thing to charge. And when you charge u lose the fitness or sleep data during that time. This device lasts about a year with it's replaceable battery. You can wear it while in water swimming or bathing. The size and weight is great for anyone. You can get any color or type of strap imaginable. Gives u step, activity , and sleep data. For the price and what it does and simplicity it's perfect way to get someone working on a fitness journey or become more conscious of health and fitness and awareness of lack of movement as well as help them set some walking goals. I'm a Garmin fanatic. I have the Garmin tactix watch and our child wears a Garmin bounce. I use their Garmin biking gear. I support and endorse their products and vision .

A useful step counter, with long battery life and goal streak tracking
I have purchased this watch at least 3 times, including some custom straps for different colors. My favorite features of this watch are the long battery life and step goal streak tracking. This watch enabled me to keep a baseline level of walking for 2+ years, reaching a few 200+ day streaks and greatly improved my baseline fitness. My approach was to set a very achievable baseline daily goal (6000 steps) and then try to consistently hit that every day. Based on the above, I would give this watch 5 stars. However it is not durable enough, hence the score I gave. PROS: Great battery life. Consistently 1 year-plus. Can take it to a watch shop to replace when the battery dies, or try yourself. No need to charge or take off, just use it. Has step goal setting and tracking. In addition, it keeps track of how many days you've hit your goal and gives a fun sound and animations when you hit it. Can set the watch to sync steps to your phone and configure it that way. I set the sync setting to about once a day to avoid extra battery use. It's fun to see the step progress over time and to hit various goals. Has a small backlight that you can activate, which is helpful for seeing at night. I like the aesthetic of the color e-ink display (useful for having long battery life.) Some degree of sleep tracking, and useful since you don't need to take it off to charge. Seems water resistant. Can at least shower with it. Lightweight. I wear it alongside a watch that has a stronger backlight and stopwatch features. CONS: It's not very durable. As previously stated, I have had to purchase multiple watches. Failure modes I've encountered: - Steps get discarded [!]. For example, I notice that I'm 250 steps less than an hour before, or I hit the goal and have to keep hitting it. These are the most frustrating since that is the main point of the watch and means I'm going to have to buy another one. - Screen gets scrambled or turns off. Also means the watch is going bad. - Audible high pitched noise when activating backlight (not a dealbreaker) - Strap breaking (this is reasonable) The first time I chalked this up to me replacing the battery and it getting water in it, but it even happens without much water exposure or without changing the battery. My best approach now is to avoid swimming with it, since I'm not getting steps then anyway. There's no warning when the battery is running out or will run out. The watch just turns off. Overall I got a lot of value out of this watch, and compared to top-end smart watches it is not too expensive. So for about a year of zero maintenance step counting, you may consider it worth it.

Good product to count steps
I have owned Vivofit 4 for about 17 months. I just replaced the battery, so the first battery lasted well beyond the promised life. I took the unit out of the wrist band and I keep it in the pocket of whatever I'm wearing. I don't like to wear two "watches"! I only use it to count steps, which is all I am interested in recording. It uploads Steps etc to the Garmin Connect app, which in turn syncs with Apple Health. The "Steps" info is easily readable on the small display; the product seems bulletproof; the battery lasts a long time. I got a jeweler to replace the battery: I didn't have a screwdriver small enough to remove the four tiny Philips head screws. Good product.

When you see MOST reviews are one star...pay attention. Me? I didn't pay attention. UPDATE: Buy a Fitbit Alta HR. I did.
I have a Vivofit 2. It was tricky to pair, but after a lot of screwing around it did, and I like the battery powered aspect. These do everything I need. But it's bulky, and I tore it up pretty good so the screen is hard to read. I figure if a Vivofit 2 works, the 4 would work. Yeah, I know that MOST of the reviews here say it won't pair, but what do THOSE people know? I paired a model 2, I can make it work. One laptop and 4 different Android phones later, and I find it necessary to admit I am a complete failure. This crappy little lump of plastic won't pair with anything. My Vivofit 2 paired with the laptop immediately - I have an Ant Stick but never connected the 2 to my laptop, just my desktop. 30 seconds later, it was paired. It was on my Motorola G5S already, so I paired it with with a backup LG G4. Easy peasy. My BIL's Samsung Galaxy 8 Edge. Boom. Like butter. My sister's iPhone 6. Took a minute instead of 30 seconds, but it paired right up. The Vivofit 4? Nothing. It paired with nothing. Now I know before, with the Vivofit 2, I had to use the Ant Stick and pair to the PC to make certain a software update was pushed to it, and that fixed pairing issues. Today, I started to pair with the laptop and the Vivofit 4 put a symbol on the screen that doesn't exist in ANY of their documentation - anywhere - but I presumed it meant I was getting an update. 4 hours later it still had the same symbol. I lost track of time, but when the screen went to the step counter I tried again...and it wouldn't pair with anything. Garmin's support number actually gave a busy signal. When was the last time anyone got a busy signal calling tech support? I might not be wrong to say this is due to the volume of poor suckers like me who bought this piece of junk. Their chat was so backed up I was never offered a response other than "call (uh, right) or send and email." I sent an email but by that time, having wasted so many hours, I vented and called them names (not fair - the poor sucker who reads what I wrote isn't to blame. I should apologize. So yeah, I give up. These Vivofits just tell me how far I walked, how many steps I took, make up a bunch of BS about calories burned, and that's about it. I quit. I have an app on my phone now for that, I don't need this little plastic bit of dog$#!t. UPDATE: Just wanted to thank the preschoolers at Garmin for never once - not once - attempting to respond to my technical support queries. And so, I bought a Fitbit Alta HR. Here's a review: It was a little more pricey than the Garmin, but I got it home, had it synced to my phone is 45 seconds, and it's worked perfectly since. I have no idea why I got the HR, because until now I wasn't interested in heart rate...but now I am curiously interested in my heart rate. Go figure. Narrower but taller then the Garmin, and still unobtrusive. It seems to better understand when I am sleeping and when I am watching television. Rather than starting a stopwatch to grab activity data, it just automatically figures any time I am moving well for at least ten minutes that's an activity and it immediately records it as such. I really like that. I think the Vivofit 4 does that, but as I found the Vivofit 4 I purchased actually does nothing useful at all I never got to find out. The screen is legible. I have to tap it to see it, but the screen on the Garmin was pretty awful anyway, even when backlit. The only edge the Garmin has is the battery. I will have to charge my beautiful, extremely useful, easy-to-pair and perfectly functioning Fitbit Alta HR every 4-5 days. The cheesy, non-functional, impossible to pair, even more impossible-to-read-the-screen-of Garmin Vivofit 4 will be a total piece of garbage for a full year before having the change the battery in order to suffer through another full year of knowing what an awful piece of crap it is. Lesson learned: do not by a Garmin Vivofit 4. Buy a Fitbit Alta HR. This should be a constitutional amendment. ANOTHER UPDATE: Just to help people make their choices I wanted to add that it's been 2 weeks. I still have not had a response from Garmin to my email queries regarding pairing issues, queries which were a desperate attempt to get *some* sort of an answer since their contact center number gave a busy signal and their chat service was not available. My Fitbit Alta HR, however, works great. Garmin' laziness, dysfunctional support structure, and hysterically non-functional wearable product is the best marketing Fitbit ever had. You can't pay people to suck so bad they drive customers to you, but with Garmin the wearable market got a bonus.

Loved it but Battery only Lasted 6 months
Loved this activity tracker. Do not need to answer calls or texts with my watch. And I am in the water a lot, so needed something that is waterproof. Also love that you do not have to charge the battery. I owned the vivofit2, 3, and 4. Loved the 2 and 3 the best, batteries lasted 2 years and 18 months. Was able to change the battery on both and got another 6 months out of them before the unit died. This one worked great. I think the font size of the display could be bigger, but still liked it a lot and it did what I wanted it to. 6 months after purchase, display died. When I opened it up to replace the battery, the battery had corroded and ruined the unit. Also, would have had to special order the batteries online. They were not readily available at local stores like previous tracker's batteries were. Overall, I really liked it. Would probably think twice about buying again just because of the battery issue I had.

Simple to Operate
I have had a Garmin Vivofit 4 for several years prior to this and, while it was still working well, the metal button you push to change functions, no longer worked. I bought THIS particular version, despite it being more expensive and having fewer functions than Vivofit 7, because I am familiar with how it works and monitors what I want monitored. I LOVE this device!! It is battery operated and the battery lasts 1+ year. (I got replacement battery at Batteries Plus where I paid for lifetime battery replacement for just $25.) The size of the face of the watch is smaller than Apple watch. (People often comment how nice the size is.) The bracelet is perfect for my small wrist. Again, easy to use/maintain. If wanting more functions, you can get Vivofit 7 for cheaper price. Either way, you'll love this device!!

Fine but not long lasting.
The vivofit 4 is fine. For the most part. However it has some drawbacks. Only tracks long stretches of sleep, which is annoying because I sometimes suffer from insomnia or have a nap, and it doesn’t count shorter stretches of sleep or sleep separated by long stretches of wakefulness. I’d like something that tracks all my sleep no matter how far apart it is. Step count is great. Though I’m sure it misses lots when I’m pushing a baby carriage or a shopping cart, it still tracks some which is good. I like that I’m able to set my own step goals. This is my second vivofit 4. The first died shortly after replacing the batteries at the one year mark. I wear the watch in the shower, as is indicated as possible in the description. But maybe some water got in. This one lasted about a month longer but when I went to replace the batteries I noticed a huge crack around one screw hole. Also found some rust in the battery bed. I’ll probably invest in something a little longer lasting next time.

Great product
I love the product. I don't use it for the app, but the app works pretty well if you are into those sorts of thing. I bought it for two reasons: Battery lasts for a year or two (no need to recharge like those useless fitbits that lasts a week), and I bought it for what it does, counting steps. I wish it took my heart rate, but whatever lol. I will take a changeable battery every year or two over a fitbit you need to charge every seven days plus the heart rate monitor. What's the point of fitbit (and similar) devices if you need to charge it for a day or so (or however long). It defeats the purpose imo of wearing one. I love how you can set an alarm on the garmin (via the app), so if you need to go to bed at a certain time, or if you need a reminder via the garmin everyday etc., it's cool. It is waterproof (no idea how deep you can go with it though, as I don't swim). The only caveat is... the band. It broke after (if I recall correctly) 3 or 4 months? Same thing happened with the kwmobile replacement bands (do NOT buy the kwmobile branded ones, they are terrible). I bought 5 this time from a different brand for $20. They are called "Soft Silicone Replacement Watch Band Strap for Garmin Vivofit 4 Activity Tracker, Small, Large, Ten Colors". No idea if they are better, but we shall see!. I believe that bands would not break if you used baby oil or something to keep them moist(?) as opposed to dry. I am not sure, but it makes sense, I think.

I got a low battery notification and I just got the watch a few weeks ago
I dont know when the battery life started but my Garmin Express says it needs replacing. Where do I get a new batery? Otherwise everything is fine and I like the watch. The delivery was in time but over packaged.
