This is steel/iron and is heavy. The underside design has prevented ANY burning when I need to simmer. This has always been at issue for gas stoves and solves the problem almost completely. However, there are two glitches. ONE is it takes a long time to heat up. TWO is it takes a long time to cool down! You need factor this. In my case I found I heated stuff up to a boil THEN placed the plate under the pot/pan on high then dield it down just at start of boil, which simmered perfectly. I guess you could preheat the plate on another burner and switch the pot/pan over. It would be dangerous to handle this heavy and NOW HOT plate even with mitts. Last, after you turn off the heat it keeps simmering and heating for a long time! If you have a critical cook “time” make sure to prepare to remove it from the plate. Cool down time to the touch was +20 minutes SO BE CAREFUL.

It hated the cast iron skillet very well. It just took a little longer but that's just fine with me. It did not scratch my glass top stove and that was my goal.

9.25 inch None Stick Copper finish diffuser works very well indeed. The only thing keeping it from 5 stars is it stains and is hard to clean with light abrasive cleaner. Other than that it's great!

DIFFUSER SEEMED TO BE OF GOOD QUALITY, AND WAS HAPPY WITH THE PURCHASE AT FIRST. THE BOX WAS OPEN ON ONE SIDE LIKE THE GLUE HAD LET LOOSE. THAT SAID THERE WAS NO HANDLE IN THE BOX. O.K., JUST A STUPID MIX UP. PACKED IT BACK UP AND REORDERED, ONCE AGAIN WHAT HAPPENED ABOVE, HAPPENED AGAIN. ORDERED A THIRD TIME AND ALSO AS DESCRIBED ABOVE. FINALLY JUST SENT IT BACK AND DID NOT REORDER.

Perfect for simmering soups and stews. Excellent with a tagine.

This heats up quick but the edges would scratch the top of your glass top electric so I am returning

Before I bought this product I hated cooking with my electric glass top stove. The problem I had was that the stove top would heat up so fast and get so hot on (even the lowest heat settings) that cooking was a miserable experience. This product completely changed that. Everything heats up evenly, I am able to control the temperature, and I no longer get any wild hot spots in the center. It does take longer to heat up a pan while using the diffuser but cooking is soooo much more enjoyable. ...or at least painful (I hate cooking).I actually purchased one of these, and one from another manufacturer, and this one is my favorite of the 2, hands down... W product fr. If you have a glass top electric stove (non-induction top, ie the type that generates real heat) you probably need this, imo.
