Does a lot depending on the car
I am reviewing this for one vehicle at this time, a 2007 Subaru Forester X. I will get into the details about that in a bit but let's get general. It's free for the first year, but if it's still being used and you can catch a sale... But be smart, you can make another email. I would just buy a new unit on sale for like $60, BAM! You just got a new unit and another year. Some may be upset about the limitations, but let's be honest if it works for you it is still by far the cheapest I've found to do ANY bidirectional kung fu. It's ui isn't great, but poke around and you can get a hold of quite a bit. It will scan for your VIN, and then your model range or exact year. You can put it in manually but it finds mine quick so I haven't tried it. From what I see you need to scan the "BCM" or mini computer of each part. So you scan the main ECU and it will give you the general things which is pretty limited for me. It does offer many different cars and you download each individual car's database. So for my SUV it's old, but it does what I need. Kinda. So my main reasoning was the difficulty in getting my throttle body to relearn itself properly. It has an easy procedure if your A/C system is good, mine is not. Topscan says it can do the throttle relearn, but it simply gives instructions to restart, run for 10 seconds and it's done. It is not indeed done, nothing changed. The magic is to control your idle, which was why it needs to relearn the throttle but since that didn't work eventually if it's driven enough and isn't dying at every stop it relearns itself. So the trick is there is an idle adjustment. It's in a separate section, but it is rudimentary yet it'll do. So it starts off at whatever rpm your engine is by 25. So it tells me it's at 825rpm... It lies my tach an loping motor says under 600rpm. So here's what you do, there's the ability to add or subtract in denominations of 50 but the RPM accuracy isn't great so here's what I did. I put mine up to 1075 RPM and you press start. I believe it won't stop until you press the stop button. It 100% keeps my car from dying when coming to a stop or just any time the clutch is in and I'm not adding throttle it died in the before time, so last week. It's only been about 30 miles, so just to and from work so it hasn't learned itself yet. So Topscan... Again for me it's doing what I want, but it does seem kind of lacking otherwise. However, it's still all the stars because there is nothing comparably priced with the features. This ain't no mechanics thousand dollar scan tool, but for me I just remember... $60 vs $600-1200, SOLD! It can act like a normal code reader and such too, but here's why it's worth the extra $40 over an ELM327, it read and cleared my airbag code! Granted it came right back, but now I know it's my driver's airbag or the wiring for that one in particular. How much would a shop charge just to tell you that? Idk in this economy but less than that scanner & a year of big boy scanning included. Download the app before you buy, add your car and see what it will let you do for your car. I did and am not looking back! In a newer or different car it may be so much easier, but this is not simple for me at least. Totally worth it.

Holy Cow
WOW! I guess with as many comments I shouldn’t be surprised. Rarely does anything Amazon sells impress me , but TopDon TopScan just floored me. Great Chinese product. Yea I know you’re on the hook for $50 after a year, but! I started out needing an OBD two mileage report for the Arizona DMV because a car I bought the brain dead seller wrote down 57 315 and not 51 315. So I went to the dealer and they wanted two hours to give me a report. That’s $340 and you get nothing but two pieces of paper. So top gun gave me what I wanted for the cost less than 60 bucks and yes, I’m gonna keep it. You can share it because each maker has to be downloaded separately it will only carry one maker at a time, but it’s not like the early days where it locked into the car that you put it on great tool. I really recommend it.

WARNING: AVOID THIS PRODUCT AT ALL COSTS
WARNING: AVOID THIS PRODUCT AT ALL COSTS – It's a Total Scam and Waste of Money! I regret to my core falling for the hype and purchasing this device. What was marketed as a reliable diagnostic tool quickly revealed itself to be an overpriced, dysfunctional, and frankly, scam-like product designed to milk you for recurring "subscriptions" while delivering absolutely abysmal performance. Save yourself the frustration, time, and money, and look elsewhere. Here's why you should steer clear: The Hidden Subscription Trap (The Biggest Scam!): They lure you in with an initial price, but after a year, your device becomes virtually useless unless you cough up an annual subscription fee (around $50-$60, nearly the cost of the device itself!). This isn't for "updates" that keep pace with new car models; it's to maintain basic functionality like reading engine codes that even a $10 OBD scanner can do for life. My device stopped reading engine codes entirely after a year without payment. This is a deliberate bait-and-switch, turning a one-time purchase into an endless, unwarranted expense. App & Software are Absolute Trash: Internet Dependent & Login Issues: The app requires a constant internet connection and frequent logins, which often drop, making it a "PITA" to use, especially in areas with spotty Wi-Fi like a garage. Terrible User Interface: The GUI is poorly designed, ugly, and uses super small, unreadable fonts. Fragmented, Annoying Features: Basic scanning features are compartmentalized and defragmented. You have to scan airbags, ABS, etc., separately, each time confirming VINs and enduring idiotic buzzing sounds reminding you to disconnect – even if you just want to switch features. Bloated with Useless Stuff: The app is full of irrelevant notifications, emails, and product updates nobody cares about, detracting from its core purpose. Unreliable Connectivity & Compatibility: Constant Disconnects: Even when you're literally a meter away, the connection to your car is incredibly unstable and frequently drops. VIN Recognition Fails: Often fails to auto-read VIN numbers, forcing manual entry. Limited Car Brands: Despite the premium price, it surprisingly lacks support for common car brands (like Lada/Renault, which even a cheap AliExpress OBD supports). You must double-check if your specific car is supported, as their promises are misleading. Fails at Basic Diagnostics: Missing Crucial Data: Despite hours of searching, simple, essential data like coolant temperature graphs (critical for tasks like burping a cooling system) are inexplicably unavailable. My old $10 AliExpress OBD scanner did this effortlessly in seconds. Overall Ineffectiveness: In the end, this expensive device often failed to help with even simple diagnostic tasks, forcing me to rely on my ancient, cheap, and far more effective backup scanner. Non-Existent Customer Service: When I reached out about the subscription issue, they summarily closed my ticket as 'Solved' without any resolution or further communication. Their customer support is as useless as their product. This device is not just poor quality; it's a predatory product. The "first free year" is a deceptive trial that locks you into perpetual payments for a tool that barely works. Don't be another victim of this "bamboozle." Stick to established, reliable brands or even budget-friendly generic options that offer better performance without the recurring extortion. This was a total waste of money and time.

Great value for a powerfull tool
I am really surprised by how many advanced features this small scanner offers. It does full system diagnostics, reads live data accurately, and has great maintenance reset options. The app is intuitive and easy to use. Great value for money.

What crazy good at first, then had an issue but: WE ARE BACK TOPDON thank you!
This item without the subscription is worse than any 20-30 dollar scanner. I bought this a year and a month ago. After the subscription trial was up, it gives you worse codes than a typical scanner would give you. It's also way slower, which I would understand if you had the full capabilities, but even in its most basic format it takes a minute to connect and work. Back when I was within the free trial, it worked well! It was slow but it was cool getting all the functionality out of it. Good thing the scanner technically paid for itself or else I would be even more disappointed, but also my cheap scanner now works better so I'm still dissapointed regardless. There's other bi-directional scanners that work better and faster that's worth the money. Paying for a second year on this one would officially set me back more than what I could get a scanner with lifetime updates. I low key scammed myself for believing in this product, but that's my fault for not being slower, like the scanner, with my decision. Edit: support reached out to help us reach an amicable position for us both. I will say it seems support and the Topdon team will do what they can to reach a good understanding between everyone! Amazing support from Michael at Topdon, at first I didn't believe we'd reach a good conclusion but I was very surprised ever since the beginning they upheld their end of the deal. I now believe Topdon will do what they can to make you satisfied with your purchase. What that outcome looks like, I love the idea that they truly will do what they can to make YOU happy. Everyone in this industry and space needs a different issue solved, and I can believe when I say Topdon will work with you to reach that resolution. I believe soon I can warrant a 5 star with continued improvements but at least for now I can happily give Topdon 4 solid starts, especially for their support. TECHNICAL REVIEW WITH 4 STARS: I started at 5 stars, then dropped to 1 star, then back up to 4 stars. At first when my subscription ended I would of thought I'd get efficient OBD codes with a 50-80 dollar scanner in comparison with a 20 dollar one. At first it took 10s of minutes to get to what a simple scanner could of done in less than half a minute. Now I was able to read special codes on a Dodge charger that simpler scanners couldn't even read at all, now that is worth 60-80 dollars and a slower read for. I tried using a simple scanner and kept getting wrong reads. I randomly decided to trust Topdon after bad readings before and all of a sudden, it was reading codes none of my generic scanners couldn't on the Dodge charger, and the history. I'm happy I have this scanner still again! Thank you Topdon for listening!

Excellent OBD2 Scanner – Easy to Use
Great product! It connected to my car quickly and was very easy to set up. It reads and clears diagnostic trouble codes accurately, and the app is simple to use. The scanner is compact, reliable, and offers excellent value for the price. Highly recommended!

Quality for a good price
I needed a bidirectional scan tool to clear some codes my normal OBD2 scanner couldn’t clear. The UI works with your phone, and the app is actually pretty good. It has a litany of different manufacturers you can get the software for. This one came recommended by a few mechanics I know, so I pulled the plug and bought it. It’s worth the $50 price for all the additional things it can do over a standard scanner. The only downside I see is that it is subscription based, ($50/year) but you get the first year free, so it’s not a total loss out of the box, and I can see it being a useful diagnostic tool for the future. It now has a permanent spot in my truck for those just in case scenarios.

Worth it
This is works way better than the cheap ones you get from harbor freight, has a good amount of functions on it as well, showed me codes and issues with my car that I had no idea were even there. 10/10 recommend

Better scan tool than my first one
I have had a pleasant surprise, unbeatable value for money. It is very good for vehicle maintenance and diagnosis of major breakdowns, with its respective fault codes. There are some diagnostic devices that are more expensive and do exactly the same thing, but they are not also devices that you can use for much more specific things.

Works perfectly on my 2012 Grand Caravan
I had an Airbag light on and my old scanner couldn't detect the issue, so I watched some YouTube videos about this particular scanner and it looked like it would read all the sensors on my vehicle. I ran a scan for the first time today and it came up with a whole bunch of fault codes, some old and some new (including the Airbag code). So I did what was suggested on YouTube and cleared all codes, then ran the scan again. The only fault code that was displayed again was the one for the Airbag U0172. I looked on YouTube for this code and It turns out to be a speed sensor in the drivers door that had lost connection, the power connector had come loose. The hardest part of this repair was taking the door skin off and putting it back on again, clicking the connector back in took a couple of seconds and the problem is fixed. For the price of this unit it saved me hundreds of dollars and a repair shop as they can say virtually anything if you don't know what the problem is before you go and they always say that they have to run a scan of your vehicle first which is more expensive than the cost of this unit alone. I really like how easy this scanner is to set up and use and because I always have my Android phone with me, I can always check for issues at any time. It's very accurate, easy to use, and does the same job as a lot of scanners several times it's cost. I am very pleased with this scanner and would recommend to anyone looking to save money on auto repairs.

Great little portable diagnostic reader.
If you are looking for a versatile and affordable OBD2 scanner to troubleshoot and fix your car problems, you might want to consider the Topscan OBD2 scanner. This is a wireless Bluetooth device that connects to your phone and allows you to access a wide range of features and functions through the app. You can scan the full system of your car, live data information, send commands to the car’s ECU for active testing, measure the performance of your car and get guidance on how to repair the faults. The device supports most vehicles produced from 1997 to 2022 that comply with the OBDII standard. When I plugged in to a 2003 Audi, I was surprised that it did an auto VIN to read the ECU which my previous dongle didn’t do where I had to search manually. The device is very well-built and sturdy, and it feels like a professional tool. It comes with a one-year free software update, which is a nice bonus. The app is easy to use and navigate, and it provides clear and detailed information. The device and the app work together seamlessly, and the Bluetooth connection is fast and stable using my Samsung Android phone. With the tool it found that the status LED light very useful which showed the power, bluetooth connectivity and a status/communications light. One thing to note is that when you plugin in the device to a vehicle, you will need to download the corresponding vehicles database/packages to the app which did take around 15 minutes on my connection. I think this is a fantastic OBD2 scanner for the money and the features. It does more than my previous dongle I used to use and it helps me save money and time on repairs in the longrun. I would recommend it to anyone who wants to do their own car diagnostics and maintenance or even understand faults that arise on vehicles before they take to a garage. I will keep reviewing this on other makes and models and see how I get on with those. I will update this review where required.

Superapparaat!
