Safety razors offer substantial savings over cartridge razors
Product Description A shining example of the razor, Parker are well known for manufacturing double edge razors since 1973 and have used their shaving expertise to create this affordable yet stylish are a close relative of the straight razor sometimes known as a cut throat razor. The rugged 31R is made entirely of stainless steel with a brushed effect body and polished blade holder. It takes standard double edge razor blades which can be changed as required so no need for sharpening, stroping and honing and all the extra paraphenalia that a standard straight razor requires, yet enjoy the closeness of a straight razor shave. This razor will take standard double edged razor blades. Simply snap a double edge blade in half (lengthways) which is a simple and safe process that can be done whilst the blade is still in the wrapper. The blade holder is then opened and the blade inserted, thexy to the straight or cut throat razor for shaving and by barbers up and down the country for that post haircut finishing touch neck shave. Barbers use these as they can change the blades between customers thus ensuring absolute cleanliness. Also remember there is a major cost benefit when buying safety razor blades versus expensive multi-blade cartridges. Enjoy the feel and closeness of a straight razor without the hassle and expense of a standard cut throat razor with the Parker 31R . Ingredients 0

It's worth a go for the price.
I am fairly new to using straight razors and I bought this because I can't seem to get the perfect edge on my fixed blade razor.I read some of the other reviews/questions and thought it was worth while pointing out a few details.1. It doesn't come with blades.2. The case supplied is cardboard.3. The handle is hollow. My personal response to the points above are.1. I bought the 100pk of single Derby blades and can get 2-3 shaves out of them. Just make sure you clean and dry it after use or the blades rust a little.2. I wasn't looking for one supplied with a case. So, no big deal for me.3. The pictures let you assume the handle is solid and I was a bit disappointed when I opened it. I personally don't think this is an issue as the balance is good, if the handle was solid, I think it would be a little heavy to use.I should have tried this first before I bought the fixed razor one, I learned techniques a lot quicker and without damaging myself. It really is a nice bit of kit and worth a go for the price.

Great razor - one star less for less than perfect assembly.
Always wanted a straight razor and this seemed like a good choice as you just need to use Double Edge (DE) razor blades snapped in half. The razor itself gets good reviews and there's plenty of talk about this particular model on the shaving forums. I've shaved with DE razor on and off for 2 years and this definitely cuts closer, quicker than a DE. Where I would normally need a 3 pass shave (with, across and against the grain) this is 'baby butt' close with just doing with and across. Against is difficult as there's no 'weight' to the razor for pulling back against the stubble.Quality of the razor is ok - it's heavy and looks the part, but the little 'arm' which locks the blade in place was rubbing badly on the main piece of teh razor. Just needed bent back a little with a pair of pliers. Cardboard box isn't that exciting for what should really be a premium item.90% of the shave is in the prep (hot towel and shaving cream) and blade choice. I've used Denby, Astra and Feather blades in my DEs and now this shavette, and Feather works for me. The other two just don't cut it, so before you give up, invest in a sample pack.

Great razor
I am very happy with this razor. Having previously used a plastic shavette, I found this one to be much more sturdy and I like the weight of it much better. The whole razor is made from steel.Shave-wise, it depends what blades you put in it, but blades are easy to fit and remove. The locking mechanism is secure and there is no danger of the blade shifting or falling out while using it. Personally I have found Wilkinson sword or Gilette to be the best. The blade closes easily with a perceptible snap to let you know that it is fully closed and wont' swing open on you again. I was a barber by trade and going by the various cutthroats I have seen and used, this is by far my favourite. I wasn't sure whether to buy this or the Dovo tortoishell but I haven't been disappointed by my choice. I would recommend this if you are looking for a decent shavette.

First Time Shaver
After enjoying the pleasure of a straight cut shave at my gym, i decide to take the plunge and purchase my own razor. After doing some research, this was the razor I went for... I was not wrong! Its a good weight and the blades slip into it with ease. Now most if not all these safety type razors will do exactly the same thing, so what makes this one different? Well when I was doing my research, this was the only one that when you closed the blade into the handle, you could push it just a little more and it locked! now this might not mean much to you, but to me, this was the brilliant it meant that the blade was safe! and with the prospect of possible leaving this where someone might knock it off where it was laying did mean the blade would still be closed, or if anyone picked it up, it would still be securely shut! Also the weight and the feel of it is comfortable too, but it looks stylish and that's just the added bonus. So in short if your thinking about trying a wet shave for yourself, and not sure which to purchase, I can without doubt recommend this.

Nice solution to the replaceable blade problem
If you are like me an use a DE (Double Edged) Razor for every day shaving, then this is pretty much the perfect solution. You just snap the DE blade in half (in the wax paper) and insert half of the blade in the shavette. It is surprising how effective this solution is. The blade is effective in this shavette, but the only down side is that the blade is inevitably not as wide as a cut throat and thus it takes a few more passes. That said, the shavette has a reasonable feel and it is great for styling without breaking the bank on bespoke razor blades.

It's good
I have been shaving with straight razors since my Dad taught me to shave him when I was like 12, and I own about 8 straights of my own. I have to say for the price it is a pretty good tool. It's not very heavy so you have adjust your pressure a little but it is a good shave. The quality is very surprising considering the price! If you are new to straight shaving I would recommend buying this! It's easier to look after and no need to hone or strop it. For the price again you can't go wrong, I would recommend this.

Good product but prefer doubled edged
Used initially and have some good shaves but the grip itself with this type of product feels odd vs the "normal" type of razor. Kept cutting myself around thin chin and decided to give up. Recently opted for a double edged type razor and found it much easier to control while still giving a great close shave. If you like this type of shaver and are experienced in using all well and good. But if you are fed up with disposables and want a great close shave I'd opt for a double edged fixed blade which is more like a normal razor and offers the same control whilie giving a shave as good as a shavette (minus the cuts). See my other reviews to check out the DE model I opted for. Won't mention it here out of respect for this product....
