Great for wide feet
For some reason, it's very difficult finding good basketball shoes in wide sizes. Running shoes? Tennis? Golf? No problem! But trying to find wide basketball shoes is nearly impossible.Enter: New Balance. I'll be the first to admit that I'm not a fan of many of their basketball shoe styles, but these are nice. The relatively simple black design looks great, the shoes are comfortable, and they're still going strong through nearly a full year of use. Highly recommended!

I know they're comfortable and true to size because he doesn't take them ...
My 13 year old wears a 14 4E because he needs a wide toe box. I know they're comfortable and true to size because he doesn't take them off as soon as he walks in the house and I haven't had any complaints of them feeling to tight. He's also proud to wear them around the other guys which means there acceptable in the teen world.

Great Shoe, Great Price
My son needs a 2e width shoe. There are very few options for wide basketball shoes. I'm not sure why there are a million wide options in running shoes but not basketball... Anyhow we purchased three pairs of the much more expensive BB82 New Balance shoes and they rip out around the first lacing hole quite easily. One pair did so after just one or two practices. The BB82 shoes rub against each other when he is running or something because they fray rather quickly on the top inside rim of the shoe. After buying three of the BB82 shoes I decided to try a pair of these BB581 shoes. These shoes have held up really well. One $60 pair of these BB581 shoes has lasted as long as three pairs of the BB82s and he is still using this first pair of BB581s. Coming back to try and get some more pairs if they would ever get back in stock again.

Good not great, but that's what you should expect
This is a good not great basketball shoe. You have to kind of know what you are purchasing before you do with this shoe. I bought this shoe because it came in the wide size (which seems super hard to find with Nikes, etc.). It is a comfortable shoe for those with wide feet and it provides above average ankle support.Obviously it has a couple drawbacks as it is manufactured by New Balance who is not exactly at the top of the bball shoe game. The shoes are a bit clunky (but not overly so) and a wee bit on the heavier side. Also, while I have had no wear/defect issues, I can tell that these shoes are going to wear out a little faster than most bball shoes. Having said that, it is $60 shoe and really what type of lifetime are you really expecting for $60?Overall, you have an affordable, comfortable, supportive shoe for the average part-time (2-3 times/week) baller. If you play more than that, you have to shell out a bit more scratch for a nicer, longer-lasting shoe.

Helps to protect ankle rolling
Yes, this shoes are designed for basketball, but I'm really looking for a set of shoes that can protect my ankle from rolling. My left foot has been prone to rolling since elementary school time, but only recently, I've noticed my ankle is rolling so much that I've had to watch where I step at all times now and walking on grass surfaces is prone to a lot of ankle rolls, most recently 4 months ago and I haven't recovered from it 100%. I was told by my doctor to either wear an ankle brace (that fits in a regular shoe to protect the ankle) or buy hiking boots. I have hiking boots, but its not very useful when walking my dog around the neighborhood, its too stiff and I need some play when I'm jogging or walking fast for my Jack Russell. Basketball shoe seems to fit my need. It protected my ankle from a recent rolling 2 months ago and I was able to continue a walking routine 2 weeks later thankfully. My foot size is 8.5 4E and the fit is just right.

Great for people with wide feet.
The fit:These shoes are a MUST for anyone with extra-wide feet. My normal size is 14, so I ordered a 14 4E. They fit perfectly. If you suffer from extra wide feet and play a lot of basketball, don't damage your feet because Nike refuses to make wide basketball shoes. New Balance has been great when it comes to making wide shoes, and these are no exception.Performance:Not bad at all. I get good traction on the gym floor, and they are just high enough to give me good ankle support. My games are 40 minutes long, so I don't wear them for more than an hour, once a week. At this rate, they should last me a good year.
