D-Link 5-Port 2.5G Unmanaged Ethernet Switch for Office, Media or Gaming

Picked up the D-Link DMS-105 to upgrade my home network, and it's been great so far. Literally just plugged everything in and it worked immediately — no setup, no weird steps, just done. I’m getting full 2.5G speeds between my PC and NAS with no drops or hiccups. The switch is small, doesn’t get hot, and since it’s fanless, it’s totally silent which is a huge plus for my office. Build quality feels solid too, like something that’ll last for years. Definitely happy I spent a little more to get a multi-gig switch instead of sticking with a regular gigabit one. If you want a fast, no-fuss upgrade for your network, this is a great choice. Would absolutely buy it again.

When I recently moved and fiber internet became available, I soon discovered that my old 5-port gigabit switch would need to be upgraded to something faster. After considerable research and shopping around, I decided to get the D-Link 5-Port 2.5 GB switch from Amazon. Making the swap was simple, just move each wire from the old switch to the new one and plug in the power cable. I also upgraded all the ethernet cables to cat 6a to handle the higher bandwidth. I checked on my internet connections and everything was working with no issues. The switch does get a little warm to the touch but not hot. I did measure the top of the switch case with my infrared thermometer and it read between 95 and 100 degrees F. I understand this is pretty typical of a fanless unmanaged switch, so nothing to worry about and well within tolerances. The switch has LED status lights to let you know connection speeds. The 2.5 GB ports match perfectly with my Wi-Fi 7 Mesh network which also operates at 2.5 GB connectivity. D-Link has been around a long time and a trusted manufacturer of network equipment, adding confidence to choosing D-Link for my home network. While it might say Gaming in its name, it works even if you're not into gaming but want a fast reliable switch at a decent price.

Been running 2 of these D-link 5 port 2.5gbps switches for almost 1.5 years now (Feb 2025) and these switches have been rock solid with my MoCA 2.5 network. Had zero issues. I get the full speed that that my MoCA network can provide through these switches (not as fast as true wired 2.5 gbps Ethernet network but thats a MoCA limitation, not these switches). I get 250+ MB/s speeds from my file server and 2.4 gbps from an internal speed test (my Internet speed is only 1 gpbs so not useful for stressing my network or these switches). These switches also resolved a quirk issues I was having with one of my 2.5gbps network card that was originally connected directly to a moca adapter. Some kind of buffer issue between the two if i recall correctly that would momentarily drop the connection. This switch handle these two network devices perfectly without issue. If i need more switches, I would certainly more of these again.

This is unmanaged so you will not have to worry about configuring ports which helps when you are already in it deep configuring a custom setup. Easy plug and play compatibility with a router or diy NIC , no fuss. No noise. Solid metal case build that should last for years, no plastic here. 2.5gb ports and that its sold around gaming and streaming is wonderful. I am using this in my Home and small office works great for what I needed. I still wish D-Link would get on the x86 router building I loved D-Link back around 2000's. Shame we dont see them much anymore other than switches.

Bought 3 to upgrade my network for Fiber 2 gig connection. All work as intended and the lights were great for finding one bad cable not running at the intended 2.5 gigs. Replaced the cable and the switch lit up blue. Perfect. My only complaint would be the price. I remember my old gigbit switches being a lot cheaper than these even when gigbit first came out as the norm. I'm just glad I didn't decide to do 10 gig throughout my house; I'd be broke before I was finished.

Love the bright Blue 2.5-Gbs Link LEDs! This might be insignificant to some folks but in my case I love that I can have a quick glance from across the room or under my desk and instantly see which ports are Linked at 2.5-Gbs. Some other switches will use a green LED to the left and another green LED to the right of the RJ45 port to indicate 2.5-Gbs or 1-Gbs. You have to be right up to the port to see which one is lit... and you have to remember, does the left or right Green mean 2.5-Gbs? Seems trivial but the Blue LEDs sets this D-Link switch apart from many others. Otherwise, it's just a great performing switch.

My internet provider ran a promotion for 2 gig fiber speeds for the next couple of years. Once they installed their parts, I realized I had all my wired connections running through a single 16 port at 1 gig setup. I wanted to prioritize a couple devices, so bought this switch to take advantage of the speeds. Put my wired desktop and NAS directly, and the 16 port switch in as the third user. After doing that, realized I really wanted the PC to take advantage of all the speed, so bought a higher speed ethernet dongle. But, that's a different post. Overall, easy to set up. Good value for the price. Very easy to see which ports have 2+Gig speeds, and which are 1 gig or less. Would recommend.

I decided to get this switch to (theoretically) maximize the integrity of the electrical signals carrying packets of information to my streamer (WiiM Pro). My intention was to create some distance from the router before splitting off the signal. I also have the ifi LAN iSilencer isolating the input and switched the power supply to a 12v ifi iPower2 😅 I changed a lot at once, and I wasn’t in a position to blind test any of those individual components, but (and I’ll openly chalk the experience up to psychoacoustics), I do feel I heard a bit more clarity in some pretty “thick” mixes e.g. The “Mandy” and “It Follows” scores. Put another way, perhaps the circumstances allowed me to perceive more of the “live feed” from my senses (versus something consolidated over time like a smell), but I’m confident I’m not doing any harm to the system. The whole idea stemmed from learning that the clock in my WiiM is a reflection of its affordability. I also have a Denafrips Ares 12-1 (which has a buffer and re-clocking, so I was probably fine), but I figured if I can’t improve the WiiM, I can make its job (and anything downstream) easier 🤷‍♂️. My Roku Ultra is also catching signal from the D-Link. I see no differences there, but again, no perceived foul. The switch itself seems sturdy and worked right out of the box. I also appreciate the grounding post. It has a small footprint and the lights aren’t distracting. It might not be doing what I intended it to do, but I have every confidence it is doing what it’s *designed* to do very well.

Je voulais partager ma connexion internet 1.5 gb et ce commutateur fait très bien le travail. Je ne vois aucune différence de vitesse entre branché directement dans le modem/routeur haute vitesse et branché dans le commutateur qui est branché dans le modem/routeur. Je peux maintenant en faire profiter sur mes autres appareils. Aucune configuration nécessaire. Vous branché des câbles supportant ce débit et le tout fonctionne très bien.

The blinking lights are very useful to debug network speeds. Very good product for what you're getting, however it's certainly pricey. I've found cheaper alternatives available since getting this, but if you want something you know will work this will do the trick.
